Dude, that Corvette will waste any BMW this side of the new M3, and even then I would still probably bet on the Vette. The Corvette remains the performance bargain of the decade. I respect the engineering, even though I have zero deisre to drive one. And American quality and crash worthiness has increased a lot over the past five years.

BMWs are well-engineered cars, but don't always count on them to be tops in a crash test.

Sunroof delete would be nice but no biggie, LSD option would be ideal.

My beefs include:

1. It's not in my driveway right NOW

and

2. Maybe the price...but since we don't know pricing yet I'll reserve judgement

Man, how you gonna dog someone out for not liking the Corvette? That's his opinion. American cars have a few bright spots such as the Corvette. As a whole, american cars are terrible. Even the build quality of the Corvette is questionable. If you want good 'ole fashioned american muscle, you can't go wrong with a Corvette. I think if the American brands adopted more global platforms, they would be forced to step their game up. When it comes to cars, Europeans don't play. They have the best roads in the world.

Anyway I guess my only gripe with the 135i ( and all BMW's) is that retarded idrive system. You gotta be a freakin rocket scientist to operate that thing.

The C6 Corvette is the performance bargain of nigh on all-time. It is a plastic skinned space frame (hydroformed frame - there's some decent high tech) - weighs about 3100 lbs.

And yeah it has a pushrod engine - but remember, it's not all that much older than the DOHC design which dates from 1912 - the only true innovations in gasoline engines since WW II have been in metalurgy and electronics.

The Corvette is a world class car minus a world class interior. If you can sneak into a Chevy dealership and arrange a test drive it'll be worth it.

Weight - and sidewall stiffness are the issues I've heard - personally I've never had runflats on a car - I have driven cars with runflats and they feel like concrete overshoes. ; -)

Oh and after my OT comments on the 'vette - three things I don't like about the 135i:
  1. Runflats (easily rectified by several burnouts and then new tires ; -)
  2. no LSD and a question about being able to drain and fill the gearlube in the diff
  3. Weight - was hoping for no more than 3000 lbs, but that's a little complaint

I am with a lot of people... no true LSD and the run flats. But that is ok. I am going to take the stock wheels and run flats off and get some Time Attacks with some normal rubber.

performance is questionable with the increased weight.

it is true that when u get a flat u can go about 50 miles at 50mph, however repair costs are significantly higher (can't give u a figure).

and worst of all, u don't get a spare tire. so if u can't find someone to repair it within 50 miles of the flat (let's say ur going on a long trip 400+miles) ur screwed. unless u got roadside assistance.

is the increase in performance on the street significant enough to shell out several grand on a LSD?

Small 'potenital complaint' for me - we'll have to see how good the electronic LSD is (135i only). I think the E-LSD will brake the spinning wheel and not monkey with the throttle (ala traction control). That, I believe, is what the press release states - even with TC off the E-LSD will be in effect.

The question is how progressive will the E-LSD feel engaging and disengaging. (WIll it come on like a hammer and go off with a 'spin'. ; -)

That being said, a truly good LSD (a good expensive one, that is ; -) can make all the difference in the world on how a RWD car behaves under acceleration out of a corner.

My biggest concern with the diff will be realized if there isn't a 'drain & fill' plug on it. They should have some provision for changing lube.

Possibly not - depends on how you drive.

I was really hoping for an SMG style trans, not the Auto with paddles.

Ah - the nice thing about the 6-speed ZF auto is that it rev-matches downshifts. So the big difference between a DSG box and the ZF auto may be the weight of the torque converter vs. the fluid clutchpack used in the DSG box.

The AVW DSG is the best imitation of an automatic tranmission by a manual and the ZF 6-spd auto is the best imitation of a manual tranmission by an automatic. (I hold the copyright on that line, BTW ; -)

OK to all the comments about the E-LSD It sounds like a great street thing but it will be no good for the track. Its using your brakes umm not a good idea on the track. on a tight track you would ware out your rear brakes really quick. Also if it was really any good they would put it in the new M3.

oh ya I also wanted to jump on board with I don't like the fact of no sunroof delete
