128i auto?

Would you track/autocross an auto 128i?

Most people seem to laugh at the idea. People don't seem to mind tracking a 135i with a DCT, but how much difference could the performance of the DCT possibly be vs the steptronic in the 128i? The only difference between the steptronic and the DCT would be how quickly it shifts, right?

I guess the major issue is that the 128i auto transmission isn't built to be used on a track but rather for daily driving. Obviously a manual would be a lot more useful in autocross than either the steptronic or dct.

Should I be looking to trade my car, or is there plenty of feasible fun to be had with the Steptronic 128i?

The issue that people will point out is that the 128s auto trans is a proper slushbox. Its a gm transmission that is used in the V6 Cadillac CTS. It has a lot of slip naturally and isn't very fast.

I say do what makes you happy. The question is, does driving the car quickly make you happy? Is it fun?

I've driven a FWD econobox with a CVT at Laguna Seca, and I might add, driven it damn well. I don't see why ANYONEwho's ever driven on a track would ever have a problem with a 200+hp RWD coupe on track.

I think an auto 128 is perfectly worth driving on a track/autox. I mean after all everything about the car is the same other than the transmission so it will still be pretty good at whatever you throw at it. Plus you already have the car so you might as well enjoy it.

I drove my friends auto 128 extensively, it's still a fun and quick car. a bit slower than the manual but nobody buys a 128 for absolute power or speed anyway.

That being said, i don't think it's worth heavily modding an auto.
