Time for Rear tires, which tire would you choose

I only need rear tires. I have PS2's on the car now. This is a weekend car only no track, street use only.

Do I get two new rear PS2's ? or do I go with a set of 4 of something else (I don't want to mix and match tires)

Anybody try the Kumho's or S-04's ? P Zero's ?

Should I switch from PS2's to Super Sports in the rear, and then go with new front SS when they need to be replaced?

thank you

G

Are the front ps2's original? If so then I would replace all 4 regardless. I don't see a reason to get the ps2 instead of pss. The pss better in every way. I also hear the S04 is very good. I have the pss personally and for a street tire they are hard to beat.

Get PSS for the rear and eventually do the same for the fronts when they need replacing.
There's no issue with doing this.

Yes most of us did that. Replaced the tears with PSSs. You could also replace all four also
As the PS2s were not that good and they are old now. I believe michelin says 6 years front mfg date is life of tire. Not a big deal in a civic but in a car of this much performance it's probably a good idea to replace them all. Best wishes

Yep, mine is like that now.

Will change the fronts to PSS in the next few thousand km's.

as others have said PSS are waaaaaay better than the PS2s that came with the 1M. I would just replace all 4.

Yes. There was only one thing I liked better on the PS2. The initial turn-in was quicker. The PSSs feel a little softer on turn-in but the ultimate grip was better. That's my 2 cents worth.

Although PSS are widely considered the best all around street tire, I would also consider the Continental ExtremeContact DW, if you are only driving on the street. They are substantially cheaper than the PSS ($800 vs. $1200). When I wear out my current set of PSS I'm going to do the DWs, based on an extremely good experience with those tires on a different vehicle.

What I really enjoy about the Michelin tires over say Conti's or Dunlaps... is that the Michelin's have awesome grip(even in the wet!) and no tire noise the tire's entire life! Last year I put off replacing my rear tires too long. I had to drive in the rain a few times... and I could not believe how well those worn out tires performed!! When I replaced them the inside edges were looking quite sketchy! Also the Michelins are a very quiet tire. Most tires in the last 30% of the tire life - as especially noisey. Not the Michelins! I'm sold. Now I only buy Michelin PSS summers and Alpin4's for winters.

I test drove a 1M with those tires when I was looking for my car and they were down on traction which is the last thing you want with our cars. I used those on the wife's gti and they are fine for that but I think you will burn out the traction control indicator bulb with those tires. 2 cents

This is very possible. On my way-less-HP-and-AWD WRX that are very surefooted in the wet, but I can see the rears on a 1M getting overwhelmed in marginal traction circumstances. But, I always drive with DSC on the street, so for normal street driving they may be sufficient.
