sunroof delete plug?

I am 6'5" and cannot wear a helmet for auto x without hitting the headliner. I am thinking I can get a little more room if I remove my sunroof cassette and headliner but I cant find any company that sells a plug for the hole. I found some for e46 and e36 but nothing for e82. Does anybody know where I could get one? Does anybody have any ideas on how I might make it myself or get it made?

Terry has a thread on N54tech about stripping weight from his 135i.
He used one made for the e92 he got off ebay.
It didn't fit well but but I think he just filled up the gaps with silicone until it didn't leak.

Another option would be to get an aftermarket seat and mount it lower.

in the past i have contacted s2rtuning.com
he makes e30\36\46 carbon sunroof delete plugs
and just recently got word from him he is looking for an e82 test car to make a fitting
seems like very resonable prices for his carbon stuff at sub 400$ for the sunroof delete for the e46

maybe a local guy can contact him?

I would say the easiest and cheapest solution is Makrolon AR (Polycarbonate) like Lexan but better. I used this material on my race car to replace the rear door windows. I used the factory glass to trace the template onto cardboard and then used that to verify fitment then traced it onto the polycarbonate to get a perfect cut. It's super light, stronger than glass and doesn't fade or glaze and is very resilient to scratches.

I've had it on my car's rear doors for about two and half years now and it still looks like new. It's been from WA to California all the way down to Solvang and back and still looks great!

While on the subject of being too tall I'm 6' 2" and I have issues with height in the cabin of the 135. I'm hoping to lower the seat at least 3/4". I am actually planning to dive into this today or tomorrow to see if my idea is going to work. I'll keep you posted!

A sunroof delete to lower the center of gravity has been a wish since ownership, but there are certain occasions the sunroof is a pleasure to have. Polycarbonate or Lexan to replace the glass would be the best of both worlds!

Knightarmor, please do let us know how it goes! My head touches the headliner with the manual seats in the lowest position. With a helmet, I must slouch and tilt my head slightly or recline the seat into mild gangsta mode. Not bad enough though.

Maybe you've seen it, but there is another member who modified his in a 1M:

Unfortunately haven't been able to find that bracket or anything similar.

Well I was only able to drop the seat by 4mm today. I found a post a while back on here where someone removed the metal stack up on the bottom of the lower rails to get some drop. Not much but 4mm is 4mm. Now looking at the brackets that attach to the lower rails it appears I can probably get some brackets custom cut to lower the seat another 1/2" or more. I have to take lots of pictures and take them over to my fab guy to see what he says. Stay tuned!

Yea I saw that. I don't really want to lose the front to back adjustment. Going to work on trying to get the four little brackets made to lower the seat. I'll let you know how things go!

I know, it's the labor that just kills it. I really want the full CF roof.

Update:
Just heard back from Alex @ S2rtuning.com and he is going to be picking up an E82 roof for development so supposedly looking at ~1-2 months for OEM fitment sunroof plug.

Should be roughly the price of their e46 option perhaps a little more expensive...

Awesome! Are their delete panels leak proof? If so,
do they use a sealant or a seal?

Yes leakproof, they use a permatex black rubber gasket sealant to seal around the edge and oem screw points to mount.

Right before Christmas I talked with Alex and he said about 2-3 weeks for final product they were doing final prototype. You might give him a call and check. I'm sure we'd all love to know.

here is what he wrote

"Hi Eli,

We are in the process of laying up couple of test parts
in the next couple of days.

Thank you,
Alex
S2R Tuning Composites"

fyi the sunroof delete plug for the E92 M3 on ebay fits our cars with a little trimming but the holes for the bolts match up.

Edited with link...I have this one and it fits pretty good, although its for my race car so fitment doesn't have to be 100% for me but I would say its around 90%.

Thought I'd ask for another update before I spring for a full carbon roof.
