1 year on today...with fresh oil too
So, today marked my 1 year anniversary of ownership of my 135i.
What can I say, i'm still all every time i drive it. One year on and she looks the part, goes better than the day i picked it up now the engine is broken in better, is comfy, no rattles or leaks, is drinking about 12L/100km around the city/freeway/peak hour which, considering my liberal use of throttle to jump between gaps and the odd fang in the clear spots, i'm stoked with. Coincidently, I also took her in for a fluid change today as i'm pretty pedantic about time based fluid changes even if I've not done the km's (was at a whopping 7,016kms when i dropped it off!). Cost me around the $220 mark for the oil change and filter and the dealer swapped out my 3rd brake light due to the cracking problem we've all talked about for free (they had part in stock luckily). I look forward to more motoring pleasure in the future. Who knows, maybe an engine mod is finally required. Like the look of the JB+ but can't bring myself to pull the trigger. When you violently break traction in the wet (with all trac nannies on) changing into third during mildly spirited driving, you have to wonder, do I really need more power? Of course the answer is yes but still.... Anyway, I hope as you all tick over your ownership milestones (I know i'm not the first to make 12 months), you're enjoying your car even half as much as I still am. Cheers

jeebus, only 7kkms in a year, I'm about to crack 5000kms in 2 months
I'm going to send it into the dealership for an oil change sometime soon, not happy with it having the oil in it for 15kkms, especially since new.

Is you condition based servicing showing 1st service at 15,000kms? I asked about this yesterday but the service lady said she knew nothing about a change from 25K first service back to 15K first service. I mentioned this because at my current rate of mileage accumulation, I won't be due for a first service until after my warranty is up!

my service interval is also 15k but when i dived into the menus i noticed a oil symbol and below it read 25k... I was at the dealership for a separate issue and the service manager told me that my oil change is 25k... If i wanted to do it earlier, it would cost me $350 for an oil / filter change!

I checked it on the way home tonight and it says. 11000, 02/2010
Weird, because we got the car 04/09. So are they saying 10months? Unless the service info gets set at the factory, not at the dealership. Anywho, 25kkm's is stupid. It's getting done every 10kkms at max.

Nice to hear you're still happy with it. We've had ours two weeks and have clocked up 1700km's and at the moment it is still a huge buzz every time I drive it and I'm hoping that the feeling lasts - so it's really good to hear that it is for you. On a side note what car did you get out of to get into this one - was it an upgrade, downgrade or sidestep?
I'm also in the same boat regarding the power upgrade. I'm very tempted by that increase in power but I'm concerned about drivability and changing the torque curve (line). At the moment it is just so pleasurable that there is so much torque available from such low revs. What options are available to us Westerners with regards to power upgrades? My salesman was really keen on one (I think it was DMS) and he said that if the dealership did the install it wouldn't have any warranty implications - but he has since left and I now have no point of contact with the dealership. |

Hey Fitzs
Congrats on the car, glad you're enjoying it. I actually got out of an 04 E46 320Ci, so i've maintained a coupe, maintained a six, gained two turbos, gained a clutch pedal and lost a little space. I also lost Nav/TV as I didn't tick that box for my new beast. I don't know what's you'd call that? A forward side-step? I don't know what's really available here in the West. We can certainly pick the brains of experts from over East. Andrew @ Southern BM is a champion with respect to this from what I've seen. A guy I know at Autoclassic suggest DJ Performance, who sell the SSTT and dump pipes here in WA. As much as I support buy local, the nice $0.8 USD/AUD exchange rate makes buying stuff from US reasonably attractive so i'd look at the commercial section for some plug'n'play solutions. I don't know enough about the DMS tune, I'll be going the PNP route. Incidently, I did go the PNP route and just bought a JB+ (Hi Autoclassic, no I didn't, my car is stock and I'd like my warranty in tact thanks. This is just macho forum talk about modifications.)

FITZS - I can recommend the SSTT as I have one - allegedly.
Alas I was corrupted a few weeks back by the S65 4L V8 in the E90 M3 and now my 135i sits forlorn and unused in the garage. I haven't driven it in two weeks and I'll have to send it to a new home. I've been notching up the km's in the M3 to 2000km so I can get the first service done and have just got back from a run up to Moore River, across to GinGin and back. The V8 just purrs and chews up the km's - and any dumb horse floats and caravans that get in the way ! I do miss the low down torque of the N54 though....... |

I was a bit stunned, as I thought that you had to follow computer readout of 15k. They assured me that the previous first service say for e46 was set at 25k, which BMW decided to bring forward to 15k. Anyhow, I insisted on getting it down now, so won't have to worry about it at least for another 20-25k! The car seems to be running somewhat smoother since.. |
