I use to work at the same job my girlfriend currently is working right now. There is an employee there that thinks he is a car enthusiast and yesterday, my girlfriend was at work when she and him were talking about crappy cars and the convo went like this ;

Employee : Hey, so your boyfriend (me) must talk about cars all the time huh?

Girlfriend : Yep, he is teaching me all cars and modifying them.

Employee : Well, no offense but his car is slow...i wouldn't spend that kind of money on his BMW, i'd rather go for a 328i, way faster.

Girlfriend : Uh, it's far from slow. It has 300hp/300tq, how is it slow?

Employee : It just is...i mean it's just a 1series, its the lowest class you can buy from BMW. I would rather buy a 328i or a Mazdaspeed 3, way faster.

Girlfriend : If you haven't been in his car before, then i wouldn't talk shit because it's far from slow. Until you actually sit in his car and he goes full WOT, i would shut up.

After she said that, he changed the subject .

I find it hilarious how people think the 135i is slow, it has the same engine as a 335i, so in reality if people are calling the 135i slow, then shouldn't the 335i be just as slow? And he cheapest BMW you can buy? You can lease a 328i for way cheaper and the sticker price (depending on the packages) can / is cheaper then a 135i.

I am actually going into her work when he is working and asking him how my car is slow, seeing what he can muster up. See what kind of fact's he can dig up from his ass. Man i love uneducated people .

In my opinion, he is just jealous since he's been working at the same job for 5years, and he is still just an "employee". Whatever happened to people simply saying "I'm jealous", instead of saying things they can't back up.

we just had our long weekend here in Canada, and I went to my mom's house which happens to be in the biggest beach party community in Canada.

As I was driving down the street to my mothers place, I went through a group of a bunch of (probably) 20-25 year olds, mixed males and females. Obviously with a few drinks in them.

One guy says in his tough/condecending voice while showing off to the girls, "oh, look at the cute BMW, lol"

girl in the group replies "acutally, that is a sexy car" as I roll by with my exhaust burbling away.

tycho- She should have told the dope that the 135 has basically the same engine as the 328 but the 1 is lighter and a turbo is added to the mix bumping hp/tq very nicely. Lighter car, more power equals faster car. Your GF needs to give him a lesson on Weight to power ratio.
Thinking about it, it isnt worth it. Hes a moron and she would be wasting her time.

A guy working at a drive-through: "That's a tight car! Is it an Audi?"

I get frustrated reading about the misconceptions that some people have about our cars even though I've never heard any myself. Actually all of my friends thought that my 135 was faster than a 335 and I had to tell them it's really about the same.

Just got mine a week ago and so far:

I called up a place to get my windows tinted
Tint guy- what kind of car is it?
Me- it's a BMW 1series
Tint guy- "a 1series"? His tone was as if he misheard me

Another incident is when I called my insurance company to tell them my new vehicle is a BMW 135i. When I went to pick up the card, she put it as a 335i.

I've heard the standard "Nice M3" a few times. Once by a porter at the BMW dealership, which I thought was kinda odd, but I guess they're not selling or servicing the cars so don't need to be able to tell them apart.

Haven't really got into any conversations with anyone telling me the car is slow, or "just" a 1 Series, etc. Seems materialistic and "one-uppy" and, frankly, pretty juvenile. Maybe I just don't associate with those kinds of people at 35 years old.

Actually, I sort of get the impression from many people that they think the car cost more than it actually did. Most people I know are pretty frugal when it comes to cars and, if anything, think my car is too flashy.

What number

I had just completed filling up my car when I noticed a lady looking at the back of my car. When I approached she said that she was wondering what the first number, of the model, was. She said the they were looking and thought the first number was a 3. She had to come over to see for sure. She said that she had never seen one before and that it was a really sharp looking car. Of course I had to agree with her.

Short story - showed my car to my family and they totally loved it. a couple days later, my sister in law calls me and asks what model I got. I said the 135i. Upon hearing that, she asked if that was bigger or smaller than the 3 series. I said its smaller & lighter. Before I could finish, she said, "It's OK. You have your entire life to get a 3 series. It's a good start nonetheless. Work harder and you can also get that 3 series". I didn't even feel like correcting her or defending the car. I just smiled and thanked her for liking my car!

Maybe next time I'll have her sit in the car when I blast past a 328i... hehe

This constantly amazes me. People who think they know the BMW brand yet think the 135 is low class. If the knew the brand they would truly hold a different opinion. They are the ppl that are just in it for the status.

My wife went to a company sponsored event where she was talking to a co-worker (from sales and marketing) who heard we just got a new car. When he asked what we got, she told him we got a BMW then he asked her what kind. She told him a 135 and he asked her (in a condescending tone) why we didn't get a 3 series. She told him its an enthusiast thing and that he probably wouldn't understand.
