No. You can do a chip mod tune and get c 10 hp, exhaust mod and get another 5, and an intake mod and get another 5. But after those 20hp, there's not much more to be had. Clearly if one wants more HP, the 135 is the way to go.

The major announcement was the "voluntary recall" which essentially increased warranty coverage to 100k miles. So it's "fixed" (I'd say "covered") in that sense.

"Covered" is the word here but "fixed" doesn't belong anywhere in the conversation. Put it this way: if your pump failed and left you limping home on a long journey or on a flat bed to the dealership (or worse failed on you while you were driving) would you still think of the problem as "fixed"?

So HPFP is "covered" if/when it breaks. And what happens to those who would like to keep their car past 100,000 miles? In other words: Please let me know if someone has evidence that the problem is fixed.

Not trying to rationalize my purchase in this post just not interested in rumours or conjecture being spread about the HPFP being fixed unless there's evidence (even if its anecdotal) that makes it closer to fact. I know that wasn't you Nathan_h, this is more directed at the original poster of the comment.

Which year/model E46? Curious to hear your thoughts on what you like/dislike between the two cars.

With almost 4 years on the road and over 45k miles, I love my 128i. I drive it in my commute and enjoy getting in it day after day. No troubles from the legendary BMW N/A inline six with plenty of power for daily driving and fun twisties blasting.

Since I was planning on long term ownership, I stayed away from the potential concerns of the turbo. I'm sure the 135i is fun, and that the power is addicting, but I am very happy with the power and handling balance of the 128i as it is. This is a very underrated car.

I took the delta between the 128 and 135 price and got a good used Triumph Bonneville. Would do the same thing again.

I had a 2000 323ci with a M54B30 swap with the following upgrades:

Dinan Tube Intake
Dinan Throttle Bottle
Custom Tune
Custom exhaust -> Catless headers into a UUC TSE3 Section 1, BMW X3 section 2, and a Dinan rear muffler
PSS Coilovers

I love the 128i, but can't help feel the loss from my E46. The E46 handled better, but of course I don't remember what it felt like before the coilovers. My 128i is stock mostly.

Very happy with my 128. I was having a bit of regret over not getting a manual,,,,,,then I blew my left knee out. Looks like I made the right decision. Power, well my 128 is faster than the Mini Cooper S with JCW tune I traded in for it so its plenty fast for me.

i'm extremely happy with mine though a new front bumper wouldn't hurt. The soft styling on the 128i is pretty obvious when parked next to a 135. Performance exhaust really helped to confirm my choice in car =P

have you seen the redesigned 128i front bumper in person...i almost like it better than the 135i bumper, much more agressive than the 128i bumper it replaces

i actually haven't seen the new one in person. i was mainly talking about my older one before the facelift. I saw the redesigned one in the magazines and it does look much better.

Eh, it really depends. My insurance for the s2000 was more than what it is for the 135i, and a civic SI was more insurance than the s2000. Yea, I thought that was weird too. So I got a 135i lol

I've had my 128 for a little over 2 months now. As far as performance, it's all the car I need, even with AT (Sport package). I'm with a lot of folks though with the exterior styling. A 135 front and rear bumper would be nice

You should have gotten the M-Sport package...
