Brakes catching
Having issues with my passenger front brakes. The wheel will spin and catch in the same spot every time. I took it in for service and bmw is telling me that an alignment will fix this. Am I wrong in thinking that an alignment has nothing to do with this? They quoted me $250 for an alignment which is absurd. What could me the issue.
Side note...these are the 3rd set of brakes and rotors (the first two were warped) in 35k miles. Update: I got the car back after an alignment. Steering wheel is now more off center than before, which the car is at the dealer to fix at the moment. I also checked the brakes on both sides. The right side spins (6 or 7 rotations) freely before slowing to a stop. The right side (just replaced pad and rotor) is worse than before. You can feel, hear and see it catch. It will make 1 rotation before coming to an abrupt stop. This is the 5th time (3rd for me in 6 months) the car has been at the dealer for warped rotors/brake issues. I am not sure what to do at this point. It is definitely a safety issue at this point. New brakes and rotors have been put on at 14, 24, 33 and now 36k miles. You could just take it to a tyre shop for a wheel alignment, they shouldn't be anywhere near as expensive as BMW dealer... And it won't do any harm anyway
sorry couldnt be more helpful |

Can you remove the wheel and rotate the rotor by hand? What happens?

I ended up paying $150 for the alignment. Drives straight now. When I spun the wheel it would make 1 turn and stop in the same spot. The rotor was warped. They replaced the rotor and pads.
It all worked out for now. I will monitor it weekly to make sure nothing is wrong. Hopefully it doesn't warp again, but I am not holding my breath. |

I haven't done any spirited driving. Just up and down the 101. Sherman oaks to downtown during rush hour. Then at 11pm. I was going a little faster then traffic, but nothing excessive. I still think that something else is the culprit.
They originally thought it was my driving, but apparently they can pull the driving data from the car. |

It could be that your brake pedal "pretension" is slightly depressed. ie: when your not on the brake pedal, the brakes are being dragged somewhat. What about the LR wheel? Does that also spin less than the RR. I ask bc the brakes are set up in a diagonal setup. I would also look at the ABS block for any issues(codes).

What do they mean by "complete brake assembly" ? Rotor, pads brake caliper? Only one(side) brake caliper?

New pads and rotors were put on both sides about 2000 miles ago. Should I worry about this and push for new on both sides? Also I don't think that they seat the pads and rotors. They told me " no hard braking for 125 miles" last time they did not say anything. The time before that they told me 1k miles. Probably them covering their a$$. |

Ah OK. It is not actually the wheel bearing, you have a bent hub. You just have to replace the wheel bearing when you replace the hub.

Not really. Would put some extra stress on the wheel bearing, but that will be replaced. Any vibration you had in the steering wheel will also be eliminated.
