135 to 911?
Title basically says it all...I have had my 2008 135 for about 6 months. Don't get me wrong - love it, but an interesting opportunity has arisen. I have found several 2008 911 S left on dealer lots with great incentives. I can probably get close to 25% off and 1.9% financing....I was curious if anyone out there has come from a 911 or has gone to a 911...
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! |

I would buy a Cayman S before a 911. But they are both great cars. Personally I only think that a 911 is not worth it until you have the cash for a 911 GT2 or GT3. Until then...Cayman or Cayman S all the way.

I actually came from a Cayman S to the 135. There was just not enough room for me to get comfortable (6'3 and all legs)...The 911 I have just enough room to be comfortable....

Just came out of a 2002 911 (996). It was getting up there in miles so I decided to let it go. Completely different car than the 135 obviously and a different driving experience altogether. Miss it very much. I love the 135 however if the incentives were there and the price was right I would jump right back into a 911 without hesitation.

25% off msrp? 25% off is still a lot for a 90k dollar car. Still need to pay 65kish out of pocket and take out a 30k loan after using the proceeds of the 135i as down. If the finance is in order I say go ahead but if you have concerns about stretching the budget I would say hold off.

I think Porsche is overpriced in general, but if you're getting a sweet deal on it, it's worth considering.
The Cayman...at $65k....are they smoking CRACK?! |

Don't forget about the huge increase in maintenance expenses with a Porsche. I probably averaged around $3000 per year or so for daily driving my 968 if you factor in tires, but I did all maintenance by the book at the dealer. I had to do timing and balancing belts and brake rotors about every 50k miles. The dealer was also extremely crazy about replacing any leaking gasket, which was fairly common for me. Not that you'd want to, but you won't be able to find any non-specialized mechanics who will touch a Porsche, even to just do an oil change.

Really not comparing apples and oranges here. Even with a sweet deal on the 911, you are moving substantially up market and up on going costs as stated above.
You will be paying for everything except warranty items on the 911 vs. free on BMW till the 48 months expire. Nothing is inexpensive on a 911 especially if you will drive it daily. Look for rear tires to last 10-15K miles at best. However, as stated before, if you can HANDLE THE COSTS..THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE. I love my C2S ( traded M-3 in for it and never looked back ) but I still do not consider it a daily driver. |
