Well,... maybe people want to see this photo, haha
Now I have to figure out what to get to try and replace this unique car. Conveniently, rather inconveniently, the last E92 M3 rolled out today .... hmmm. Go without a car for a year+ until the M4 comes out? Find a 2013 E92 M3 on a lot with the options I need (unlikely?). Oh well. |

Damn that sucks. Buy it back from insurance and build racecar? I know here in Ontario a flood damaged car can not be repaired and put back on the road, not sure what the laws are in Alberta.
Best of luck. |

I know it is just a car, and most importantly you are okay, but I do genuinely feel for you. I too almost lost my 1M(hydro-lock and possible salvaged title)... and when it came down to searching for the replacement. The decision was something I could not make nor wanted to think about! Luckily all worked out and I received a brand new engine and turbos and most importantly, NO salvaged title... or I would have gotten rid of the car. I will tell you like a friend told me when I was in my situation, "get rid of the car, and move on to the next chapter in your life." It suck it happened but looking back only gives you a stiff neck. Learn and move on... First thing I would do is look into moving somewhere else before having a possible repeat. I wish you the best in all of this and do keep us posted!

hmm
curious besides the electronics, shouldn't everything be in pristine working condition? of course the internal (leather, cloth, liners) would have to be stripped, but eventually it'll dry up. How much can rust? I thought the whole car was dipped from factory... engine, turbo, plastics piping, intercooler, chasis, diff, transmission etc... all should work.. provided you clean them (take apart, clean)

Get a used E92 M3, then replace it with an M2 or M4 in 2015.
Tough break, man. Really, really sad. Even more so given that they aren't making any more of these. |

why is it gone? The car can be rebuilt and you are still the owner. Have insurance pay you out and then rebuilt it. Hell make it a track car now?
It is a salvage car now but not a loss in the long run.

Here are the Alberta regs on flood damaged vehicles, which are pretty similar across Canada.

What type of damage is caused by flooding? Flood vehicles are extremely unsafe and cannot be repaired. Water damages a vehicle’s electrical components including its airbags, antilock brake system, stability control, heating and cooling systems and even its braking, acceleration and steering. For example, an airbag could unexpectedly deploy anywhere from .05 seconds to five years after the vehicle is damaged. Or, it may not deploy when required. In addition, mould may grow in air conditioning systems, seats and carpets, which could lead to respiratory infections. ------------------ The 1M was a sitting duck for a certain death once the rain started to pour in. A tragic end, alike abandoned Ophelia in Shakespeare's "Hamlet" play...

Pains me to just watch her just parked there. She looks so real, poor thing. Perhaps an M235i coupe will be the closest thing to her. Really feel bad for you, but that's not gonna help is it? Take care

Sorry guys, I don't get on the forums very often.
The vehicle was towed by my insurance to auction. I have replacement cost coverage, so I will be getting a 2013 E92 M3,since, well, the 1M is irreplaceable . A few of the questions: No, it was never attempted to start. It was sitting in sewer backup for a week. Yes, it was completely submerged...and then some. In the end, things have worked out well; I'll miss that car a lot. Thanks for the kind words everyone. |
