I missed this one first time around on the board, but read it in the Sandlapper newsletter. Great article, although it has my wife concerned now! At only 300 miles, I'm still trying to behave myself.

I passed a cop during one of my test drives. It was like sizing up your opponent as you test your new weapon. Of course the real bad guy is that little voice in the back of your mind that keeps saying , "that's not too fast, there's no one around, isn't this fun?"

I got mine chipped a few weeks back and man does it fly now. It did before but now it's a real pocket rocket!

Got my first ticket last week, a warning only thankfully. Texas Trooper got me on I-10 at 85mph in an 80 (god that's a long, boring drive from San Antonio to El Paso!).

Oh, and according to my GPS (and the trooper ;-) my speedo reads 5.3% fast.

Only 5 over and he wrote you? Have they implemented a "zero tolerance" policy down there?

Yes, 5 over seems pretty light to be pulling someone over. I generally set my cruise control at 8-12 miles over the limit, so that I'm really doing ~ 5 miles over, factoring speedo error.

OT: mikeo, picked up my E92 335i last night. Awesome, though I sort of wish it was SGM. The TiAg does look pretty though.

It's not because people here haven't driven high performance cars. I think it's how the 135i makes one want to drive it faster and faster. It's just the way it feels. I came from a Lexus IS350 which has 300 hp as well but the 135i just makes you want to go that much faster. When I had about 250 kms on the 135i, it's first time on the highway, I just started accelerating through the gears. The radio was off so all I could hear was the car accelerating. A few seconds later, I looked down and I was at 150 kph. I said damn, I was trying so hard to drive carefully within the breakin period too.
The car just feels so good when you're revving it...

I'm just over 600 miles, just got back into my 135i from driving a rental PT Cruiser in Houston. I had way too much trouble keeping it under 80 on the way back to the office! Sneaky fast is right! The only way I'm going to survive is using speed control. But it is soooo much fun getting there, I'm still grinning every time it kick it

Apparently! Actually, I ran at a true 82mph after that and had no more problems.

I can validate that it will do 140 in 4th. I was doing 130-135 on the Autobahn when a car pulled out in front of me to pass who was doing 80. So I had to put those Brembo's to use ( I love those brakes at Autobahn speeds) and slow down and I shifted into 4th. As the car in front moved back over into the right hand lane, I started to accelerate away and when I would normally shift, I decided to just see how fast I could go in 4th. I shifted into 6th at 140.

On comment on the limiter, according to my speedo, it is at 153. When you hit it you just lose throttle. I hit it several times and so did my wife the one day she was willing to drive on the Autobahn.

Not that I aren't completely jealous, but this kind of talk is exactly why I didn't stretch myself to the 135, I'll just have to wait 7 seconds rather than 5.3 to kill myself

well sometimes regardless of the specs or times of a car - it can just be a lot of fun to drive. i have the 128i and everyone says "oh man u should have got the 135 but I'm very pleased with the car - it's quick enough for me and I really enjoy driving it. though...i would like to try the 135 just to see the difference.

I hit breakin a cpl days ago and the 135 is really a whole different animal from 5000 rpm on... I was really dumb founded at just how quick it is... now I am really trying to decide if I shld spend the money on a piggyback or not... I can't imagine what I wld do with the car if it was even faster... but then again it wld be nice to know it is there if I ever need it...
