HELP!!!!!!need advice on problem.what should i do???????
ok so I bought my jet black 325 exactly 2 weeks ago yesterday and when I picked it up it was ticking almost as if it needed oil.(sounds like a lifter) I asked my salesman why it was doing this and his reply was its very normal and should go away shortly. We checked the oil and it read ok.I let it go thinking it would go away.well two weeks and 900 miles later its sounds even worse and is getting louder.I didnt buy my car in town so I drove it 80 something miles to valencia and spoke to my salesman who went and got the service manager he continued to tell me as well that it was normal and if its still doing it at 2000 miles then bring it back so to try to make a long drawn out story a little shorter two hours later and 5 guys later I finally got them to take it in to be fixed .I had to say either fix it or give me a new car.they gave mea pos sentra rent a car to drive, then today called and told me they
have to get permission from somebody higher up at bmw to take the engine apart so it is going to be a while before they will know whats wrong.I really dont like having y car be a guinea pig for bmw disection.someone told me that before 1500 miles i can get a new car.anyone heard of this and what would you do?Im f---ing furious Last edited by 1sic06e90; 10-11-2005 at 11:36 PM.. |

Man...sorry to hear that. I don't really know the policy...so I can't comment on what should or should not be done. Not sure if they just get you a new engine/ parts/ or if you qualify to get a whole new car....
But, hopefully they can figure this out soon...cuz I know your pain (my last car was a Nissan Sentra!!!!!!) Good luck.

that sucks!
i would be mad too. But give them a chance to fix it (even though they acted like a dick to you) and see what happens. If it starts dragging on more than a few days and there is no satisfactory fix, then tell them you want the new car your paid for. You can always catch more bees with honey but sometimes you have to use bug spray...

In NY the law is 3 visits for the same reoccurring and fixed problem, or 30 total days to be fixed. Something like that. Basically they have to be given the chance to make the car right. Also you may be entitled to an equal car as a rental. Check the lemon law in your state. Best of luck

gosh, when your car makes any unexpected noises that then continue for so long wit
out letting up, to me that seems like a problem no one needs. it is possible that it may be something non critical and then maybe a potentially serious issue. nevertheless like yourself i would not accept the noise for very long and i would have been at my dealers doing exactly what you did. so well done for your persistence and i hope that all will be well. by the way, i doubt that such a noise is normal. i never had and dont have that in my car and i doubt that few if any members here have the same problem. all the best.

Icant believe it
Yesterday my salesman calls me back and tells me that there is a problem and that they have to order and then replace all the lifters on the car so I'm looking at the end of next week at the very soonest to get my girl back.I had to drive 80 miles away to get a better rent a car and finally ended up with a tahoe but that doesnt even begin to mend the wound.is the lemon law a full 30 days My car is jet and I just know its going to be scratched or something whenever i get it back.Im f---ing dying here in the mean time.

Considering how new your car is, I would raise hell and insist on a "like" car for a loaner. If they give you shit, take it to BMWUSA. Sounds like you have a poor dealership too. My car took longer than expected to get the Sirius and Alarm installed so they gave us a 745Li as a loaner!

Dood sorry to hear.
Typical Dealership treatment. The worst of it is when they don't believe you. They think you're some kind of RETARD and have no idea what the F#@* you're talking about. Contact BMWNA. Please keep us posted! |

Lemon law
In most states in order to be considered a lemon the car must be in to fix the same problem (a problem that affects the drivability of the car of significantly devalues the car) more than 3 times or the car must spend a total of 30 or more days in the shop during the first year of ownership in order to be considered a lemon. You must then inform the manufacturer, and they have one last chance to fix the problem "in a reasonable amount of time". I've been there before, I had a car in the shop 59 days in the first 6 months. Hopefully they fix it right for you in a timely manner but other posters are right, it never is the same after a major repair - especially when it's brand new! In the meantime, tell them to get off their ass and deliver to you a comparable car. Good luck!
