BMW Performane Exhaust

Hi all,

I have ordered a new 135i convertible which I am due to receive in May.

Really keen to look at getting a BMW Performance exhaust to make it more fun with the roof down.

Anyone got any experience with it?

- Typical costs?
- Noise?
- Best place to buy / fit?
- Anyone want to sell me theirs in May?

TIA!

Hiyer mate.

Can't give you too many answers as my car already had the exhaust on when I bought it

IMO it sounds awesome. I've seen a few people saying it makes the car sound "chavvy" but it really doesn't. It amplifies the nice bits like low revs under load and the "wuffle" when you lift off, it doesn't drone at motorway speed and at the top end of 2nd, 3rd and 4th it sounds like something more exotic (all in my opinion ofcourse)

It is NOISY AS FOOK at cold start: My neighbour mentioned that she can hear me start the car in the mornings and we live in 3 story houses!? but it quietens to a nice rumble after a few seconds, I really like it.

Compared with my last car (335i with golf tee mod) I think it sounds more Sportscar-like if you know what I mean and I still haven't seen a Youtube clip that does it justice.

If ever you're in Manchester gimme a shout and you can have a listen to mine!

Its GOOD, not too loud and chav like! I would have taken it off if it sounded chav like!

....and YES cold start its very loud but dies down after about a min, but depends on the temp / weather etc.

I got mine done at BMW and got ripped off! Try and barter with them.....i was stupid and didnt.

I live in Worcestershire, if you are around you can get in touch and have a listen.

Thanks guys.

Cotswold BMW have given me a price of £620 inc fitting, my local dealer is at about £700 before haggling.

Not bad - will weigh up the fuel costs of going to Cotswold BMW, although the drive back cross country with the new exhaust could good fun

The perf exhaust is a great idea for the vert. You hear almost no drone with the roof up, a bit between 1700 and 1900 while cruising in 6th and roof down youve got the wind noise so you cant hear the drone either. Its very minimal is what im saying.

Its a much better sound than stock for sure, but as others have said, on cold starts in the morning the car literally booms for about 30 seconds. You cant have a conversation within 15 ft of the car...its that loud.

He he, I like the sound of the that!! Well, people have to get off to work in the morning anyway don't they - bit of noise at 8am won't hurt them

Ugh, I still haven't sorted one out for mine but really really want one. Ideally before my annual pilgrimage to Le Mans in June.

Russ did you swap the centre section back to the old pipe with silencer or was that somebody else. I really fancy just trying the straight pipe centre section as opposed to the whole exhaust as I like the standard black chrome pipes and I reckon it will sound a lot better without the centre box.

Hi Mike

I just got the performance exhaust, had it fitted at my local BMW (Worcester). I believe its JUST the end box thats replaced. BUT i put the black ends onto the new silver ends!

Looks ALOT better that way, the Perf tips extend out way too much.

Got any pics?

How easy is it to put the black tips back on and does it still sound as good?

Not keen on the perf exhaust sticking out too far....

Hey Russ, there are definately two parts, straight through center section and back box.

Like Moff I would be keen to see what yours looks like wearing the black chrome covers.

Because of the performance exhaust, I only drive with the windows down. Around 4k rpm is when you hear it scream. Cold starts sound big and mean.

You will notice the exhaust will stick out a little farther than stock. However, with an iCarbon diffuser or the performance diffuser, it's completely flushed.

I suppose we're all different, but I had mine taken off after a week, it was too noisy for me, disconnecting the flap valve gave me the sound I liked, for a lot less money, although I lost heavily swapping mine about
