135i in an accident no wheel lock key, shop can't get wheel off

So my 08 135i vert was parked infront of my house and got sideswiped by a car without plates that was driving pretty erratically. It sucks but its not too big of an issues, I had it towed to my friend's bodyshop and they began stripping the car. Now, I had a previous issue with my roof getting stuck sometimes so I decided to address that as well and the roof has been torn down.

Anyway, when the person hit the car it pushed the tire into the tall curb it was parked next too and the sidewall is kinda torn up/bubbling and we tried to take the wheel off and noticed there was no key. From what I've read the key should be in a little tool box underneath the trunk by the battery? Well there's nothing there...I bought the car last summer certified pre owned from a dealer over an hour away from me. I did have a tire replaced once by the dealer so I'm not sure if they took the key and never put it back. The car is not drive-able in its current state and we need to take the wheel off anyway to take off the quarter panel which was damaged. The nearest dealer from me is about 30 mins away. The dealer I bought the car from is not being very helpful and said I need to bring the car to get another key. Is there anyway we can take it off without the key? Or I could get another somewhere?

I believe its a universal key to any 135i, maybe a local owner on here would give you a hand? I see them on ebay however they range from $29-$65. It would at least let you get the repairs taken care of and drive out to the dealer when you are finishef to straighten out things? What if you would have a flat tire or something along those lines? Always gotta be able to get your wheels off in an emergency type situation

thanks thats a good idea. i know i'm pretty pissed its not there. you would think they would make sure to have it when selling the car. if i did get a flat or something i'd be screwed. i might have to try to find another 135i locally but they're pretty damn rare here

Try the regional forum... May be someone close enough to you to be convenient. Best of luck!

Ask a local tire shop if you can borrow one of their tools as they run into this and moron mechanics stripping them with impacts all the time. Alot of times you can lightly hammer on a 12 point socket that fits. It may require you to buy a new kit but if you don't have the key you'll need to buy the entire kit anyway.

BMW wheel locks are provided with a business like card with a special number and code to order a master key. Sometimes it can get mixed up with the manuals and stuff but its worth a look.

Good luck with that. From what I was told there are 19 different keys and the dealer has a master ring with all 19 and no way of knowing which one you have.

You can read what happened to me in this thread.

If that's a REAL shop, then they have a Snap-On truck that comes around once a wheel and they will sell them a tool to break the lock. Most every shop has one.

I can confirm this. I bought my car with 24k miles and the week after I picked it up I realized there was no key, tool kit, or even a tow hook. After a few calls the dealership agreed to just replace the locks with standard lugs at no cost.

I watched the tech bring out a "master" set of wheel lock keys | sockets which easily had 15 maybe 20 different sockets. Once he found the right one it took no time at all to switch out.

That said unless you have the registration card that would allow the dealership to determine exactly which key will work you probably need to go to the dealership.

Bottom line they sold you a vehicle with no wheel lock key, thats their responsibility to rectify!

geez thanks for the info guys this isn't looking good. I gave them the shop's number and they said that they would give them a call and send someone down. My friend at the shop said they still haven't received any call. We want to avoid trying to break it off but that is a last resort. I think having bought this car from them they should provide me with a tool to take my own wheel off. They are a real pain in the ass though, I had to fight with them to get a 2nd key for my car

It it only costs $20 to have a universal set of wheel lock removal tools:

1) how much value are wheel locks; and

2) In this circumstance, why not spend $21 just in case the BMW dealer doesn't come through.
