Smile US versus World Headrests - The Next Picayune Topic

Okay, I don't understand why we cannot get the EU version of the headrests. They allow for so much more room out the back window, and can be easily adjusted if needed. (Plus the EU version look nicer):

(Not talking about cloth versus leather, which is another gripe of mine  )

Is that not the same headrest folded down in the first picture and folded up in the second?

I think on the german configurator the fold down headrest is an option.

yeah i suppose you're right.

thanks to larry for this photo that makes it clear. not sure there is any room for them to rotate given the wide base.
edit: not to mention there are no tracks for the pillars to clear the head rest were it to rotate!

I will probably pull mine out, but probably for visibility purposes. If I want to lose 1-2lbs I don't need to mess with my car, I should just run a couple extra miles a day.

Now that we've got headrests covered, let's move on to floormats.... Sheesh...

Keep in mind that these are still pre-production cars. The proper US-spec headrests could be different than the ones pictured here. If we do get stuck with these headrests, I'll be pretty peeved.

the black 135 from Boston seems to be a mix spec. Headrests, shift knob, amber deflectors, etc...

Yet another advantage to ED - quick access to a German BMW dealers parts counter! (Bet they cost like €500 each.)

We here in North America have higher safety standards from what i understand the headrest should be able to cover your whole head not your kneck area due to a pressure points in your neck incase of an accident but thats what i think im not 100% about it at all.

:iono: My e90 is like that too. I wouldn't think it's safety regulations that are causing the large chunky ones to be on the US spec cars, if they are allowed to have the half height one in the middle.

My guess is that it's slightly cheaper to have the less adjustable monoblock headrests than the folding ones.

I'm kinda hinting toward is the center 3er headrest the same as the euro 1er headrest. and if so we could probably swap em. would be relatively cheep for those of us getting black leatherette.
