Virtual Dyno

Anyone here use it? the program already has the 335i and 135i files saved, but I edited the 335i information to accurately reflect the 328i I have. 17" tires (25" tall) gear ratios and final drive were really the only things I needed to change.

I figure this would be a neat tool that we all could use to measure the effectiveness of our mods without having to visit a dyno - and since it's the same program for everyone, we'd have directly comparable results to overlay.

As for the accuracy - it's supposedly spot on:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-dyn...al-dyno-s.html

Ill be using this to help me set the program up (which isn't hard at all)

Seeing as it records in uncorrected numbers, it doesn't seem that useful for comparison.

Plenty of people use uncorrected numbers when they dyno. I don't, but many people do.

Those numbers are equally pointless. I can certainly see why people want to attach them, but without corrections it is all a bit silly.

Nothing is perfect, but it's better than nothing.

I KNOW you have a Kdan cable - do it.

So do I, but no everyone has reasonable access to a dyno.

Speaking of dynos, what do ZHPs with just a tune and zero supporting mods usually return?

High 190s - It's rare for any M54 to top 200whp stock (but it can happen)

Just trying to figure out what to do with the fiance's ZHP. Ideally I'd like to dump the SAP and pick up a few HP.

Don't care about the bolt-ons, primarily want a tune to delete the SAP.

If you guys want to do it right, get off those dynojets with inflated numbers and roll on a mustang dyno.

My problem with this type of dyno software is that you need a safe area to do a 2nd or 3rd gear pull.

My 2nd gear tops out at near 100kph / 60 mph. 3rd would be breaking speed limits...

I'm not prompting illegal activity..

but if you really wanted to make that happen all one would need to do is go out very late and find a long empty straight stretch of highway. A drag strip would probably be your safest option.

I never exceed 5 mph over the posted speed limit.

Im not saying that I dont exceed the limits. I just find it hard to do at least a 3rd gear pull, outside night time and totally empty roads. It is objective because most Dynojet dynos are either 3rd or 4th gear

I'm going to be using 3rd gear and doing 2000RPM highway/abandon road pulls. Of course, I'm not telling anyone to do anything dumb or outside of their comfort zone, but I think this will be a awesome way to get at least some type of comparison going.

You'll need the Virtual Dyno software, KDan/Kcan cable (depending on model year, cables are cheap - mine was $22) and logging software. I'm going to be using BMWlogger (site blocks the link) - it can read codes AND restet adaptations (which I still can't figure out how to do on INPA...)
