Help! Comfort Access opened in a rain storm

Unfortunately introducing myself to the forum in a bit of a panic. I’ve been a 2012 135i owner for about 11 days now before I did something wildly stupid. Yesterday in a terrible Floridian rain storm as I ran into work and away from the rain I must’ve hit my comfort access button in my pocket and opened not only the windows but the sunroof too! Entirely soaking the car and the idrive controller. After getting towels and drying the absolute piss out of it drove it around to air it out and last night idrive was working fine. This morning on way to work idrive was fine except for scrolling and lateral or up and down movements. So I had a couple questions as to what could have happened...

-Could I have blown a fuse? If possible which should I check?
-Can I remove the controller and center console and try and put it in rice (lol seems silly but might work like a cell phone who knows?)
Any other possibilities / things to try

Sorry man, that really sucks.
Not sure how this happens - all my comfort access does is unlock the doors.

When you're car's unlocked, stand beside it and hold in the unlock button on your remote.

It can be enabled and disabled as a customer preference by your dealer (or by yourself if you're familiar with NCSExpert) - but generally speaking, cars with comfort access have the feature where you can remotely open your windows and roof by holding in the unlock button and remotely close them by holding in your lock button.

jonsno I don't know anything you don't, but I'd expect if you blew a fuse it'd not work at all. I'd do the same thing as you do with a phone - depending on how much time you've got - I'd park the car in the sun as often as I can with the glass roof closed but the shades open and hope it comes good after a while, or if you're feeling game, remove the centre armrest unit, take the controller out and put it in a warm, dry place for a week or two.

It's raining cats and dogs here in Port Saint Lucie!! Bummer about the CA opening but I've had that happen - luckily when it was dry out. You can have that feature turned off by the dealer. I think you can do it with the Carly app & dongle too. Which is with its weight in gold.

yea truly bad luck and didn't really look back to check considering the storm but thanks xQx & Gangplank ... yea it really sucks but an update is that now clicking left side works but none others. I wanted to park it in the sun and let everything really cook but mr weatherman is saying rain, clouds and very little if any sun up until next thursday out here in daytona beach which is crazy bad luck honestly. Might repost in idrive section of forum and see if we can nerd it up and find a way to fix this ship.

To answer your question, you can remove the controller. Setting it in rice seems like a good idea. If that doesn't solve your problems, replacement units are available used and new for fair money.

Two rice-based options:

1) Remove controller and place in sealed container with rice, wait.

2) Buy institutional-size bag of the cheapest rice you can find, place in large tubs inside car, wait.

The first is the more surgical and probably quicker, but the second is easy if time-consuming. Rice can be dried the oven and reused if need be. In all cases, run the A/C on recirc at all times.

And just a heads-up for everyone - holding the unlock button on the fob will open the windows and sunroof, comfort access or not.

With as much tech these things have, it's a travesty BMW didn't have the fore thought to tie in the rain sensor that controls the wipers to closing all windows when they're open and the car not running. But that thought process makes too much sense just like having both outside mirrors tilt down for reverse.

Don't use rice, use Silica Gel Desiccant, it works much better. If it was my car, I would roll all the windows up and put many good size bags of this stuff all over the car (including on top of the iDrive controller).

I bought some on Amazon that changes color when it absorbs the moisture (then you can put it in the sun, dry it out and re-use it). Buy the stuff in the mesh bags rather than bulk (such as https://www.amazon.com/Gallon-Indica.../dp/B00BXKBOYM)

Good luck!

The rain sensor actually does interface the window controls, and I have mine coded to close the sunroof and windows when it detects rain

I did seem to recall this being an option to code in on your own. But why it's not a default from the factory is beyond me.

Tubs of DampRid work better and faster than either rice or silica gel, unless you're planning to remove the controller and put it in a container of dessicant. Get a fan inside to circulate the air, too. It will also help reduce mold growth if you get some in there quickly enough.

Not on my car. It's coded out b/c I done want it accidentally opening. On both my x5 and the 135i it came that way.

I used Carista to enable it. I recall testing it and noting that it worked nicely--only while the ignition is on though.
