video: euro spec headlight with adaptive

if you guys consider buying euro spec adaptive headlights, its more touble then you think. the headlights i got have adaptive driving but for some reason it is not plug and play. NA bmw for some reason made the wiring harness different then the eurospecs harness. i always thought it was plug and play. after installing the headlights i have an error that said ! adaptive headlight error. it is kinda annoying. with help from e90fFleet got me through this. sord of...thanks fleet. i decided to re wire the harness and succeed in doing so. it took me 3 hours to do this. everything looks original still. each wire was cut and connect by soldering. i also add the heat shrink wire cover for more protection. once that was done i used black tape (provided by natureboy, thanks man.) i was scared shitless doing this. once i cutted one wire there was no turning back...after 3 hours of cutting and soldering i got the result i was looking for. sorry i did not do a DIY. if i did i think it would have taken me 5 hours to finish. NO MORE ERROR!! yahhhhhhhhooooooooo...... :rocks:

Can you please give some details? I mean, was your car company-fitted with halogens/xenons? Did you install enything else except the headlights? Any part numbers?

Thnx!

good job man. I am a little confused (or maybe alot confused), was your original car purchased with adaptive headlights? Does this have anything to do with your clear corner? You have too many mods for me to keep up with dude so I am confused.

Long's car had the standard us-spec bi-xenon adaptives just like all US 330i's and optional on US 325i's. He managed to source a replacement Euro (clears) bi-xenons adaptives to replace the US units (with the amber) for the ultimate euro look mod.

I wonder why they used different harness for the euro lights? I mean everything is in place i.e. the xenons and adaptive control unit...maybe in the case of our US spec cars, the ambers needed its own special wiring harness for optimum annoyance

Wow LONG that worries me. My euro spec adaptives are supposed to be showing up in the next week or so. Got any pointers for me or anything you can do to give me the heads up so I know what I'm doing?

KL2DC explained it very well. for the guys that is planning to get the euro specs headlight, make sure the harness comes with the headlight or you are not going to able to do this. the headlight will still work but the warning sign wil go on and stay on. no biggy to evo_s4 but it annoyed the hell out of me. the easier way to do this was to remove one of the prong in the wire harness and plug it to the right place, but there was no way to get that sucker out. i think this was the only resort to get the adaptive to work. here look at my cheesy diagram. you can access the harness from the hood. no need to remove the headlights again to do this. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING THIS, I WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR.

Funny, I feel like playing dominoes all of a sudden

Long: great stuff as always, you are certainly the DIY-master You should've done a write-up as I anticipate many more will attempt this mod in the near future...it'll save you from having to respond to countless PM's/Emails...but of course you have your 'manager' lux.sh to take care of things!!

Really tempted to add the euro's to my planned list of mods...too many things on the list right now

I wonder for those who do this mod, if something with the adaptive system should fail, will it void your warranty and you will have to paid the dealer to fix it? This is a mod that is hard to conceal.

It won't void your new car warranty but your SA would deny warranty work done on the lights themselves as they did not come with the car originally...or if he argues that the install directly caused a subsequent fault (unlikely as these lights are OEM, right?).

If you do a nice clean install and a smooth talker you can always argue that's how the car came when you took delivery j/k

I still want the lights...but now I definitely will definitely not do it myself

First...I need to actually figure out a good place to get one, at a decent price. Then...cough up the $$$.

Hey Long,

I had mine done at the dealership. Do you think they would've had to do the same thing you did to get no warning light? They didn't mention of any problems.

Hey, long - I think the soldering is good but time-consuming and overkill. You can get away with a crimper and crimp connectors. That's what I did with my stereo system where I had to cut a lot of wires. It's pretty secure and even after crimping you can still use electrical tape to back it up. Saves a shitload of time!
