Guard ROlling
Looking for any tips or advice on guard rolling.
I had my rear guards rolled, as 255/30/19 Michelins are too fat, but there doesn't look like there is much to gain We focused on the area from 9 to 11 o'clock (looking at the wheel) as we thought that's where the rubbing was. But a week later it looks like it also rubs around the 2 o'clock area. So much so that it actually grabbed the metal lip, pulled it down and took a chunk out of the tyre. Also has anyone successfully modified the liner material, i.e heating and reshaping it? I'm also getting a wheel alignment next week. How effective will more negative camber be and what is a reasonably balanced amount to run? Very close to chucking these wheels in the bin right now. |

I haven't thought about rolling the plastic, but I did roll that 2 o'clock lip. That's actually the only part I rolled since it is the only part that isn't rolled from the factory. I had the same thing happen where my tire grabbed it, pulled it down, and it cut a line around the tire.
I didn't have to reshape the liner. I removed it, performed the roll, and pushed the liner back in. Its soft enough that you can force it to shape to your newly formed lip. I did push my rears to full negative camber ... but I don't think it does much if anything at all. My reasoning is that, unlike the front, the rear negative camber is achieved by pushing the bottom of the wheel out, not pulling the top in. So, basically, the top of the wheel is in a fixed position, which is where your problem is.
