Rattling from rear dome light

Anyone experience this? I've had it almost since I got the car but I think it's starting to get worse, or at least I'm not able to put up with it anymore.

I can kind of get it to stop rattling temporarily if I press the plastic light housing up, but eventually after going over a few bumpy roads and whatnot the plastic loosens, I guess, and starts rattling again. Any good solutions to this?

My first 1er did this as well. Drove me crazy after a while. Never solved the problem but eventually traded the car for my current 135i. Sorry... I know that doesn't help you but at least you're not alone. I'm sure there's more with the same problem.

I have same issue. Haven't tried to fix it yet. Would love to hear if there is a solution.

Wow - thought I was the only one and hadn't bothered searching. Just seems that the entire thing isn't fastened very well to the roof structure. Never pulled off the headliner to see what can be done. Right now mine has stopped rattling, I must've banged it around/shifted it at some point and it's holding up.

On the other hand, I do have the dreaded A pillar rattle and a super annoying squeak from somewhere behind the cluster when going over dips that are making me crazy...

sigh...

Pl describe these rattle noises!

HI.
I have a 2012 135i coupe 6MT with only 55,000 km.
My car has a wicked rattle when I hit a sharp expansion strip or rough pavement. It sounds like the kind of noise you would get from a loose window rattling inside a door. But I don't think that's what it is.
Please describe your noises as best you can.
I'm curious about the A pillar rattle and the dome light rattle. (??)
The other day I folded down the rear seat on the driver side and left it down to see if that has any effect. Not able to judge it yet.
Thanks. This kind of stuff drives me crazy.
FWIW, my Acura TL has the horrible roof rattle that is well documented.
Really annoying that these so called luxury cars have such defects.

No real update but I may just remove the rear dome light to solve the issue. Been too lazy to try, but there could be something in there that some superglue might be able to fix. Worst case replacing the dome light with a new one might do the trick too.

Anyways, I also developed a dash rattle somewhere behind the glove compartment

A solution is found.

Detach the dome light housing (just pry the back part of it down with your fingers) and simply do not reattach it fully. Reattach it in a way such that you leave a small gap on one side of the dome, but not too loosely so that it may fall off by itself.

If you reattach it fully it will eventually start rattling again. I guess it's because there's some room for the dome to move around a tiny bit when it's clamped in. So simply don't let those clamps snap in completely. Ghetto fix but it worked for me. No rattle for over 2 weeks.

I've also managed to quiet down a dash rattle on the passenger side by wedging a small piece of paper that's folded over a couple times in between the space where the glove box area meets the vent.

Experiment with your placement depending on the location of the rattle. The power of paper

Hope this helps someone. I see this thread has a lot of views for only 6 replies so it must be a common problem, lol.

Now who can solve the soft popping noise of the foam headliner.

Sounds like bubbles in a soda can.

Constant unless you touch the area that it is coming from.
