Do 1 series Apex ARC-8 wheels fit a 2 series? If I bought a 2 at some point (def not planning on it in the near future) can I just swap them right over?

The bolt pattern is the same 5x120, so quite possibly yes. I would send a quick email to APEX to find out.

We were finally able to test fit our EC-7 wheels on a M235i and have learned that you are indeed able to fit the 1-series wheels in 18x8.5" ET45 and 18x9.5" ET58 with 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 street tires. The tires we tested were the Nitto NT05, which is a bit meatier than a regular street tire, but not too extreme.

We would be weary of extreme performance tires such as the Hankook RS3 or Dunlop DZII though, and would then recommend to downsize to a 255/35/18. There is some contact on the rear with the tire and the dust boot of the rear strut, which can be remedied by removing the dust boot altogether, or trimming it for the wider tires. This is the compromise that you'd have to make in order for the wheels and tires to be much wider than OEM if you are seeking to go with that wide of a tire in the rear. The fronts are very tight and does not have much clearance for anything wider, so we can't imagine fitting any wider wheel or tire up front unfortunately. The rears are also at it's limit, but at least we're able to fit a 265/35/18 which isn't too bad.

We are working on putting together a formal article of the test fitment that we did to put up on our blog and on the forums with this information.

This is the only thing keeping me from buying wheels at this point--no 17's worth running. I wouldn't mind a simple 17x8.5 setup so I can run 235's out front and 245's/255's out back without an absolutely ridiculous stretch. it's just a shame that there's no quick and convenient way to run 245's up front on the 1, or else a 245 square on 17's would be on my car in a heartbeat

Or all of the 17" widths in 18" [or just 18x9+30 for ARC8].

As long as the bolt pattern is correct, the wheels will mount up. The question is just whether or not the wheels will fit fitment wise, depends on the specs of your wheels.
