Wheel question

Hey guys, I just upgraded from my e46 and was hoping to be able to put the new wheels I had just gotten for the e46 onto my new (to me) 135i. Tire rack has the same size listed as available for the 135i but recommends that slight fender rolling for the rears might be needed since its an "aggressive fitment". Didnt realize the 1 series wheels were so much smaller than e46. Anyways, the wheels are ASA GT5's with 255-35-ZR18s for the rears and 225-40-ZR18s for the fronts. Would love to get these on once I burn through the stock RFT's and let the dealer replace them under my warranty, then put the new ones on and have brand new RFTs waiting for me down the road. Skeptical of fender rolling though and the horror stories with paint chipping and all that. I did some research and people seem to be running this size with no problems, but others have slight rubbing. Anyone care to chime in?

Cliffs: Will 255 35 18x9s (rear), 225 40 18x8 (front) fit on my 2010 135i? Also, can I just use the same bolts/hardware already on the 135?

Edit (additional info):

5x120 bolt pattern
front offset = 40
rear offset = 45

Not sure about the tire size. Might work with some fender rolling. Here's a forum member running the same wheels with 215/245. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=556974

The dealer isn't going to give you new tires under warranty, those are wear items...

Not so sure if the offset would fit.

I've got the extended maintenance until 100k that covers wear items such as brakes, tires and all of that.

You may want to re-read that contract-- the platinum extended warranty doesn't cover tires at all, the add-on for tires is road hazard coverage, not "I ran out of tread."

Unless you got something above and beyond the high-end contracts they usually sell (and if you did, please let us know how to get it ourselves...), you're unlikely to get the tires replaced under warranty without driving through a construction site and picking up nails in all four...

...which, I suppose, could've been your plan...

Well shoot, you might be right. I just read over everything again. I was mislead. So what does the maintenance cover then? The items listed under "exclusions" included just about everything.

Krop,

Too funny...I was trying to buy the exact car you bought in Kansas and you took it out from under me. no worries...I found the same car in silver with 17k on it in Seattle and am having it shipped to me in MI next week. Congrats on your new car...I doubt you'll be getting tires under warranty though. I hope you weren't mislead by the stealership. You mind me asking what you paid for it?

No way!!! I was thinking that the salesman was just making that up that you were coming back with your wife that afternoon. Crazy! I'm a reallllly bad negotiator so I didn't them down much... Paid $30,500. Plus I get an additional $750 towards my financed amount from graduating college within the past 6 months.

All in all though, I am extremely happy with the car and I paid what I thought it was worth. Glad you still ended up finding a car!

Those wheels and tires should fit. Maybe you will rub if you're going fast and hit a big bump or dip, but you should be fine for the most part. You might want to do the fender roll as mentioned if you want a little extra peace of mind though. You could also purposely try and max out the negative camber; it'll help you keep from rubbing, as well as make the car handle a little better. You have a little bit of wiggle room on the stock parts, especially if you pull the alignment pins. But, it really depends on your car and varies from car to car because each car is very slightly different. Do you plan to modify the suspension and drop the car at all? FWIW, I am on E46 fitment wheels, but 19x8.5 ET 35 front, 19x9.5 ET45 rear. Lowered on coilovers, M3 front control arms, and I only rub on very big dips at high speed or with more than just me in the car. Probably gonna get a roll on all 4 fenders anyway, though.

I don't plan on doing any suspension or anything like that for a very long time. Really my only plans are to swap the wheels on, maybe a light window tint and some all weather floor mats. That's about it. Car is already loaded with everything I want.

I didn't see anywhere where you wrote about the brand of the tires. Unless they have wide shoulders like Michelin PSS, Goodyear F1, Advan Sport etc, then they will probably fit without trouble.

Please post pics when they are on. I think they will look pretty good on the 135i.

I don't know much about DWS all seasons. I think if it rubs on the rear, it shouldn't be very much.

The maximum offset without problem it's E45 front and rear E45 and tiers front 215/35/19,215/40/18 and 245/35/19 255/30/19 245/40/18 255/35/18
Now used my car 215/35/19 (wheels offset E45)and 255/30/19 (wheels off set E45) and i don't have any problem but my suspension it's stock.
But i think its better to put Wheels with offset front E45 and rear E50 it's most safe.

Hey Krop - you found the right place to ask..welcome aboard! I know another 1er that is local who got his fenders rolled at Eurosport down in Norman. Don't know what they charged for it, but the outcome looks good; in other words, not even noticable when looking at the car. I would maybe consider it a last resort if you are set on using those wheels and have any problems with rubbing.

You lost me bud...

General consensus seems to be to just throw them on and see what happens lol. I've seen someone run the same exact wheels with the stock tire size, so I guess they are stretched? I don't know a whole lot about this stuff, but if they are stretched. What would be worse for the tires/car? Stretching or rubbing?

Usually is better to don't rubbing?
But the above offset front E40 it's too much out !!!! you will have problem.
See my wheels has offset E45 front and rear.

Update:

Got the wheels on today and the rears do rub a bit over dips/bumps. Even with just myself in the car. So I'm now looking at getting them rolled. On a different note, I have yet to swap the TPMS since I was just testing fitment, so now I have that stupid light on. Couple questions:

1: Anyway to "trick" the car or code it to have the light not display anymore without putting the TPMS on the new tires?

2: If no way to do that, is there anything special I need to do to calibrate the sensors for the new tires?

The wheels look very good on your car. I think its probably worth getting a wheel alignment before rolling the fenders. If you wheel alignment isn't quite spot on, it could make the difference between rubbing and not.

That's a good point. However, it drives perfectly straight (before and after switching wheels) and I just bought it as certified pre-owned BMW 2 weeks ago so I can only assume it was aligned recently.
