Need Help with Offset!

I am looking at purchasing the following:

Enkei FN-18

Front:
18x8.5 offset:42
Tires: Toyo Proxes R888 235/40R18
Rear
18x9.5 offset:42
Tires: Toyo Proxes R888 265/35R18

So what I would like to know is the following:
Will the offset work and will I have rubbing issues with the tire sizes??

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated before I drop bills for this setup

Yeah it will most likely rub in the rear. You could roll the fenders to help get rid of it though.

so what should I do ... roll fenders or just go with a narrower tire?

The setup you're considering for the front will be close to rubbing. The new front will be 3mm further from the strut but 17mm closer to the fender. If it does rub, it will probably only require mild rolling. The rear setup, on the other had will certainly rub and will require aggressive fender rolling. The new rear will be the same distance from the strut, but 20 mm closer to the fender. From other threads, it seems like 10mm closer to the fender is about as close as you can get without rubbing.

Full details, comparing your oem wheels (different F & R) to the new, can be worked out here: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp (handy to bookmark it...as this is THE best wheel / tire comparison machine I've ever found on the Internet).

That setup is going to be close in the front, but rub quite a bit in the rear. It might be beyond what you can roll, especially if you ever lower. 265 on a 9.5" wheel will require about another 10mm offset to those wheels.

I had rubbing with 265x35 Dunlop Z-1s on 18x8.5 et48 in the rear, stock height. Admittedly, the Z-1s are one of the widest 265s made, but you'll still have big problems with your offset.

I may be wrong, but my 245x40 in the front on 18x8.5 et43 rubbed pretty badly--it was a height issue more than width. I'd also be concerned about the 235x40 being a little too tall.

Rears will stick out 20 mm (0.8'') farther. Make sure that you have enough room under the fender. If not, consider narrower tires or higher offset.

so just to clarify .... they should work ... but i may have to compromise on the size of the tires .... and the fronts should be fine with 225/40r18 and the rears with 255/35/r18 ... both rims with an offset of 42 ???

I have et42 on 9" wheels, meaning mine are more inboard than those, and I can barely run 245 star specs on them.

I know that people get enamored with certain wheels, but really, get the wheels that best fit the car, and don't sacrifice the rubber just to make them work.

Unfortunately, we do not have that many choice yet, but they'll be coming. As mikeo stated, we really need some et50's wheels for the rear.

one last question, would this wheel setup work if the rear was et50?

Likely it would work with a 50 offset on a 9.5" wheel. Nothing is definite until somebody tries it.

we really need some good 18x8/18x9 staggered setups for this car, the OEM wheels still seem to be the best choice right now

That's interesting. My fronts are 18x8.5 et43 (5mm spacer on the 18x8.5 et48 Breytons) with Dunlop Z-1s in 225x40 and I get no rubbing at all. But it's very close to the strut. I'm at stock height of course.
