smell the clutch
had to execute a fast launch at a traffic light because of a dumb mistake and a one way road. Anyway, after this there was a strong odor which I can only assume was the clutch. Car runs fine but I did not feel good about subjecting it to that sort of abuse. On the other hand it is a BMW. My question is: should I be concerned about the clutch odor?

Lol you'll be fine. BMW clutches are fucking tough. You probably just over revved and the smell you had was a very slight burn from slipping the clutch in. I abused the shit out of my clutch on the e90 and it didnt so much as flinch till the day I gave it back 3 years later.

I bought my car used and had occasional brief wiffs of clutch on quick starts which eventually went away. I think the previous owner may have hotspotted it. Felt fine though, and the problem finally went away on it's own. |

The clutch is a consumable. When it's done, you replace it.

No worries. I purposfully rotated my tires at an extreamly high rate as to leave two large dark streaks just the other day. Took about two days for the burnt clutch smell to pass on. Brought me back to the old days when that was a permenant smell in my youthful hotrods....
