Engine shuts off when stopped

I read on a post somewhere that if the car is warmed-up enough and the battery isn't low, the engine turns off for the 1-series just like a hybrid car. And when you step on the gas/clutch, it seamlessly (and without vibration) turns back on...

Can anyone confirm this?

Oh, I found it, its on a 120d however:

One of my favorite features is the Auto Stop / Start. When stopping in traffic for a stop light, just put the car in neutral, let the clutch out, and the engine turns off. No wasted fuel. Very smart! When the light turns green, just push the clutch in, then engine automatically starts, put the car in gear, and away I go.
What about the 128i and 135i?

Nope, the 4 cyl. gas engines(Euro) do that too, but not sure about 6 cyl. engines.

That function is a part of the BMW Efficient Dynamics program and we will not be seeing any of those "features" in the US yet :iono:
Not sure why exactly, but they've done the same thing on the R56 MINI's... the regenerative braking function was supposed to be standard across the range come next year, just not in the US

It happens to me when I forget that I left the car in gear and let the clutch in. I don't think its efficient dynamics

You might have read it on the wikipedia page for this model, it's a topic I've wondered about after seeing it there without finding further discussion on 1addicts. Here's a quote off the wiki:

The 1 Series is effectively the first in the world to have mild hybrid technology as standard equipment, although BMW is careful in its marketing not to label it as a hybrid vehicle, as this brings market expectation of electrically assisted drive.

If you wanted to be ready to "floor it at a moments notices" you wouldn't put the car into neutral and take your foot off the clutch anyway. You'd leave it in gear with your foot on the clutch so you could pop it as soon as the light turned green.

I do notice the HAVC fan speed varies -sudden jump and dip during idle.
