Issue after Vanos Recall?

Ok, for all of you who have gotten the vanos recall done. Have you noticed any issues? I noticed I have a lot of white smoke coming from the engine bay after it was done. The service adviser did say that the engine may need to burn off a small amount of residue oil after the work was done, but this seems excessive. There are no other issues besides the white smoke. No codes, car pulls fine. Given I've only driven the car 60 miles since the recall was done, but there is a lot of smoke. I'm going to call the BMW shop in the morning to ask em about it. Just checking in if anyone else has had the same thing pop up.

Mine was done a week ago and I don't have the issue you describe.

It's probably from residual oil as you said (as the valve cover obviously has to come off).

Turns out the valve cover gasket was not installed properly. It was rolled up as they described it. They had to order another one so it'll be in the shop for at least another day.

Sounds like BS if you ask me. N55/N54 valve cover gaskets are the single most common thing we do. While it is possible that they are out, it's highly unlikely. That being said, it is also very easy to pinch the gasket lol

Glad I caught it before I put it away for the winter. At least it will be taken care of.

Not BS at all. N55 valve cover gaskets get rolled most often, especially if the technician bumps the exhaust camshaft. As far as residual oil goes, that's usually gone within 2 miles of the test drive.

Also the most common valve cover gasket we do would be N52.

When I had mine done they had to keep it in overnight because the advisor told me they "damaged" the gasket and needed more time to re-do it (I had the battery cable recall done at the same time so it was an all-day job). By the sounds of it it's tricky to install. Glad you got it figured out.
