What is a good auto racing glove that grips a leather steering wheel?
Can anyone recommend a particular racing glove to look at? I had a few instances where my hands got sweaty enough that I had to wipe them on my jeans at this last HPDE I was at. It's not something I like doing at 110+ mph on the front straight. I'd also like to protect the leather wheel in situations like this where my hands sweat a little. My brother lent me his Sparcos to use, but the palms are made of a suede or alcantara material and they slip all over the leather wheel. I want something that grips the leather wheel. Any recommendations?

I use Alpinestars' karting glove. It's not fire-resistant, but I was in the exact same boat as you and it fits the bill perfect (at a discount compared to the full race gloves). Highly recommend any of their products. My only complaint is I'm a ML cadet glove size so their M fits me just a little tight in the fingers but perfect on the thumb.

Your best bet will be karting gloves like others have suggested. I'd suggest finding your local racing/karting safety supplier and trying on several gloves to get the best fit. Most tracks have some sort of store at the track where you can buy things like gloves so you might need to wait until then.
Proper racing gloves aren't cheap. For example, these are ones I'm thinking about picking up: http://www.ogracing.com/sparco-arrow-rg-7-racing-gloves |

If you want something fairly cheap, just get a pair of Mechanix Wear gloves.
I have a set of OMP driving gloves I really like, with suede palms. Leather or suede does not grip leather very well when dry, you have to spit on them a couple times. Unfortunately, not kidding...... |

These are the ones I use, apparently the same that Michael Schumacher used.

chris82 I have Sparco Land gloves, black size 10, that I'd sell you for $50 shipped if you're interested. Suede palm but I've never had a problem with grip on any type of steering wheel. They're about 1.5 years old and it's my second set of them (changed colors to match my suit last year).

These are the ones I have. I bought them when I was vintage racing my Cosworth Vega which was likely to light on fire at any time. They are super nice.

IMHO disposable latex gloves are a great cheap alternative to racing gloves.
Pros: Cheap Fresh clean pair each time you drive Unbelievably grippy Easily removable Custom fit Professional look Cons: Hands become insanely sweaty Feels like a condom on you hands, but safety first! |
