I was under the impression from everything that I have read about the system that if you didn't opt for the wireless kit, Akra puts a blocking plate in its place, which means that all exhaust gasses pass through the muffler?

I reckon you'll have to prove that on a dyno. :-)

Oh really?

Were there any pictures taken of this piece or the process of cutting it out.
How was it done?

Good way of saving yourself an extra $800 if you don't mind having it loud constantly.

Cheers

Just get the catless downpipes - they are not much louder and no one is going to check it anyway - its not a wrx or a skyline. I gained 15 rwkw with downpipes with the standard exhaust.

I would not bother swapping them out with catted downpipes you would be looking at $500 install the cost of the downpipes for very small gains.

From what I gathered, the 100 cells cats shouldn't only be 10% worse off than straight down pipes. It will cost twice as much though. My only concern was the exhaust smell I was reading about, plus potential insurance problem.

I am all good if it doesn't smell. Just need to have a cat somewhere to make it legal. Insurance company always try to get out of paying out.

M1, here are a couple of shots that may explain things a little better than words.

So one could then later remove the dummy pipe and simply insert the butterfly section. (if one wanted too of course )

After driving in front of the 1M for almost 5 hours today, and looking in the mirrors, I like them alot, they look exactly how BMW SHOULD have made them, VERY mean.

A relatively cheap upgrade for those who care about aesthetics.

Downpipes with cats = bad idea. Go catless, that's the whole point.

There is no smell from catless, it's another American myth.

I might double check my policy then - the akra downpipes look fantastic. Unfortunately, I need to make up my mind soon otherwise I won't get it before christmas.

I wouldn't say there is no smell. You definitely don't want to leave your car running for more than a few seconds inside a closed garage when you get home. I have done this before...

Alpine omg this thread is out of control. Soon we will all have MotoGP safety cars!
It is difficult not to be excited ...

Would it be possible to share details re:
(a) drone (eg 110kmh at 2200rpm), and
(b) costs involved?

Thanks.
