Octane Booster

Is there a safe way to raise the octane of pump gas by a couple points? Say from 91 to 93?

You live in TX isnt there 93 at the pump?

You could always purchase higher octane fuel and mix with a lower octane to get a higher octane... thats how the pump makes 89 for you at the station

Always buy the highest octane gas you can get, from a trusted station. The cost delta between mid-grade and high-grade is small enough that it's worth putting in you $40-60k car. I haven't found a pour-in octane booster that does anything for performance. I've heard of people claiming that some do work, I just haven't seen it myself.

Get yourself a jug of toluene and mix it with 91 octane gas. Let us know how you make out.

LOL used to do that in college when we had access to the Chem stock room. Cant remember now but octane on toluene is somewhere in the 120-130 range

We do have some stations in Cali that sell higher octane fuel (100+). If he has one of those local to him he can always fill a few gallons of that then top it off with the 91.

What is the rationale for only 91 octane in CA vs 93 in other states?

Been used in the Audi community for the past 10yrs or so.
Toluene is pure 114 oct. It works exceptionally with chipped/tuned turbo charged vehicles. I used it on my B5 for many years.

In Maine, some stations had 91 and others had 93, always had to stop at the right ones. Here in WA, most have 92. Go figure.

I also learned in college that Toluene can be used as a base for many good road trip cocktails. Don't just waste it on your car...
