Most dealer sites I've gone to don't have anything about these upgrades, especially not the software-only one.

The only thing I've found from the dealer web-sites is the full kit and is priced at $1500 to $3000 UNINSTALLED. The interesting thing is that the site I always wind up at is a shopbmwusa.com website that has a different price depending on how you got there (which dealership website you visited first).

For example I got to shopbmwusa.com from two different local BMW dealership websites, the uninstalled cost is different and no software-only option is available:

I called the dealership where I bought mine from today and gave him the part numbers from a previous post. Took him about 5 minutes to locate it and the labor associated. $599 + 1.5hours labor ($180) + tax.

$850 for 20/17...hard to swallow. I think i'll pass.

I agree, it's steep for what you get. Plus, I'm really just looking to get back to where the car was before my fuel pump software update. Never felt the same after that update. Hopefully this will get me back, plus add a little kick. I'll let you know what I think after I get my car back later today. I should have a dynolicious before and after as well.

1.5 hours for install sounds like a bit much but otherwise, this looks like a winner. specially w/ the way BMW underrates their stuff, this should be a significant power bump (not like a jb4 or cobb), specially for us who dont want any warranty headaches

Give them the part number that was listed for your respective engine. See what they say.

Just picked the car up from the dealer and I can say there is a definite improvement in throttle response. I noticed the difference in the parking lot. Zero lag in D. I used to select DS to get a quick throttle response. Haven't had a chance to go test high rpm power, but the low end is fantastic! Much more like before the terrible fuel pump reflash.

I'm really interested in this option, but I have what may be a stupid question -- if I get the PPK Stage 1 (software only) and I get Cobb later on, will Cobb overwrite the PPK? In other words, are the tunes "stackable"?

I'm new to E8x/E9x and although I'm aware of the HPF fiasco I don't know the details of the fix.
Do they give you a new software in addition to replacing the fuel pump? Why does the software reduce your power?
Has this HPF issue been resolved as of 2012 MY or is this still a pie in the sky?

Regardless, I think the bmw Power pkg is too expensive for the out put, I'm waiting on COBB tunning to come out with the AccessPort for the N55, I think thats worth the wait.

First off, welcome

I suspect the reason why most people are not going for this is that it gives you no extra power, but costs a lot more for parts, and even more for installation (Since it's a lot more than just updating the ECU).

The following statements are generalizations I've seen since I joined -- I'm far from an expert since I don't track my car...

That being said, many people here who do track their cars run into limp mode issues pretty easily depending on the track, the driver skill, mods, and weather. Some attribute this to oil temperature, and some attribute it to water temperature. While both fluids do cool the engine, coolant is the preferred method for cooling.

When it comes to keeping the cooling in check for track duty or for lower/more consistent temps in a hot area, the best way to do this is to upgrade the cooling system. You can do this with a better primary radiator (best bet, but expensive) or you can add another smaller radiator to the system (What "Stage 2" does). Further, even if you do add a better primary radiator, you are still using the stock fan motor. The Stage 2 adds a more powerful fan motor to further assist in cooling.

In the end, stage2 is ...IMO... for more consistent performance, not for "more" performance.

I consider it a great deal only because anytime you can buy a BMW radiator, some BMW hoses and a new BMW Hi-Po Radiator fan for (only) $1200, it's a good deal to me.

I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet that a better primary radiator costs more than $1200 by itself.
