The self-dimming mirrors and homelink are the only two things I really want on the ZPP (and when it comes right down to it I can deal with the crappy Sears garage door opener fob ; -). So how much do I want something other than 'taupe' or 'black' as you've indidcated and am I OK with side mirrors that don't dim? (Seemed to have lived so far w/o them and still ain't blind. ; -)

As a BMW Center employee, it's EXACTLY what we'd been expecting.

For me, these small items make a big difference in my overall ownership experience. Dont ask me why but having a proper on-board computer was something that I always wanted but never had (until now) and it was something that always bothered me with my Mazdas. I thought that I could live without certain luxuries but they contribute a good deal to my overall sense-of-mind with the purchase, if you can see where I am coming from. My tip is to get exactly what you want and nothing less. It just leads to growing disappointment throughout the length of ownership.

On a side note, to require 3300 bucks to get Ambient Lighting in a 1 Coupe yet have it standard on a MINI is odd. I think it is pretty clear that BMW tried to lower the MSRP to invite interest then raised the price of the package that almost every car will have.

I'm surprised by that result, too. It's not like BMW shocked anyone with these prices. They are exactly what most people on this forum have been predicting for months now.

You know, I'm getting old and crotchety enough to do just that.

The price announcement established for me that the only way of getting this car in a reasonable price (where value + BMW = great) nicely equipped is thru ED... other than this and the 1 Series doesn't make any sense with the 3 Series that close in price.

Honestly, it makes me consider a 335 more now, rather than make me want to get a 135.

I was just about over the 1er when I figured today that I could afford an ED 335xi sedan loaded to the roof in options for what the 1er will probably run me. This is figuring that I find and score a sweet near ED invoice deal on a 3er and figuring I won't find a dealer that will budge on 1er ED MSRP. But............ No 6 pot brembo's and I wouldt buy knowing the face lifted sedans will be out next year. Plus, my SO scored a 6 night 7 day vacation package to just about anywhere in the world. We're going to see if we can break it up into 3 nights at one location and 3 at a different and spend about two weeks over there picking up my new car and exploring Europe. So that puts the 1er back at the top. Maybe it will work out if I order in the summer and pick up in the fall. Maybe I can find a dealer that will give me a break by then...

Pricing sucks. I hope it doesn't take this car to be a failure for BMW to realize this. You guys can say what you want; "N54 this", "BMW that", its all hogwash at the end of the day. Fact is I can buy cars with just as good of performance and handling for far less money, they may not have some uppity badge on the front, but that's quite alright with me.

That new Hyundai coupe is looking just that much better now.

i don't know about going as far as a hyundai instead of a bmw, but i would take a second look at the Evo X if the 135i doesn't work out for me.

Well, if you're not a vaule shopper and a badge one instead, I understand your perspective.

I'm still getting 135i know I now the M3 my 2nd choice is 70K w/ all the goodies. My 135i will be under 40K even with 10k-15K worth of mods which I plan on spending anyway I'll still be under my budget and Im thinking MY 135i is gonna be just a beast that can run with best of them............

its not so much me being a badge shopper as opposed to a value shopper, its more like a mix between the two. this will be my first bmw, my previous cars were hondas and toyotas so i'm hardly a badge shopper. but i do have a limit, and i'm not saying i would never buy a hyundai (i considered a saturn sky redline before the 135i), its just that hyundai hasn't shown me anything worth buying.

Good luck
I think I am in agreement w/ You. Used E46 M3 might be the way to go. Plus I can get it in a convertible and still save 10 grand.
Most M3's Ive looked at come with all the goodies too. Leather, Premium, Sport, Heated Seats...etc. Only things missing will be the more agile handling of the smaller 135, and the 6 piston brakes that the 1 is supposed to have.

I would say one of the biggest things missing would be a warranty on an S54, and a lack of history of how the car was treated before you.

Owning new sucks, wallet-wise. We all know that you take that hit driving off the lot. However, you do gain piece of mind for everything down to wipers and brake bads being covered.

Do I think a new e46 M3 > e82 135i? Hell yes! But buying used is a crap shoot on some cars...

^ lol, I wouldnt say that about CPO'd cars...

An e46 M3 from ebay? Yeah, good luck, but CPO'd or one-owner used cars are fine. You just have to put more effort into it. I had to go to Dallas to get my CPO'd ZHP. 1 owner and CPO'd bought at the dealership it was traded back into, always serviced there as well. The first owners have a long relationship with that dealership. They purchase, drive for 3 years, and trade back in. Not a lease return, a lump sum purchase. I'm quite sure she spent most days and nights in a garage...

Whether I buy a 135i or 335i, I would put the sport, premium, cold weather, and navigation packages in them. When all is said and done, the 135i comes to about $45K and the 335i comes to around $49K. Seeing as there will be no discount off MSRP for the 1er for a while, and I can get the 335i down to around $46.5K, I'd say the 335i is a much better deal.
