It seems to norm here to be getting around at least a 10% discount off list, especially on low volume cars. So this is what I am aiming for.

I am at an early stage of negotiation with my local dealer but he is only willing to give 4% which is weak considering I am a repeat customer. Plus he quoted me metallic paint for $3500 in writing...when I challenged him he tried to palm it off by saying that was the price for metallic paint AND Kansas leather (std option) which is just plain BS! By the time he apologised (after I went to the effort of explaining carefully that BMWs in general do not charge extra for standard leather in another email) I was already mistrusting and annoyed.

I read on here Coastline is good (Sparoz?) and willing to make deals happen.

I am sick and tired of the games dealers play: I am looking for a straight up deal and a deposit is theirs if the price is right.

Anyone willing to help me in the right direction or perhaps negotiate on my behalf?
Mate - Coastline is great - Can't fault service and advice!

Make your fax generic and include a long list of dealers and their numbers on the address field. Just highlight each one (with something that will show up in black and white) and hit the fax machine. It makes it obvious to each dealer that you are shopping them against each other for a "best price" and that you haven't got the time or the inclination to speak with time wasting speculators.

Then when you get the lowest price in writing, see if your local dealer will match or better it.

this is the best method i have seen. will do this next time for sure.

Why not get in contact with one of the online fleet companies. These guys don't charge you a cent to get the quotes and will shop around till they get the best price. Use that info as a guide and go back to your dealer with the view that you want it cheaper than what you have been given up to that point. If they won't budge tell them that you are going to buy through the fleet company. Then watch them try and bring you back as you walk out the door...

Yeah I am thinking of trying a fleet company. But really wanted the convenience of a trade-in at a dealer too.

No luck yet with Coastline. I emailed their sales manager for a discounted quote but he refused asking me to call HIM if I wanted to negotiate. Think he might be testing to see how desperate I am hehe nice old dealer tactic. I then emailed him back for him to call ME on my rare day off (Im at work everday as in the health business so find it hard to get the privacy I need to negotiate by phone). Havent heard back so business must be TOO good.

They mustn't like customers comparing written quotes with other dealers etc...

Thanks a lot for the suggestions anyway guys. I might wait till the end of the year as then dealers are sometimes more desperate for sales. Now is probably not the best time to strike a bargain.

congrats - Whilst we all want the lowest possible price, the 135 "whoops just realised you bought a Z car" oh well the N54 engine is truly an amazing and its worth every cent IMHO.

Although i would have liked a bigger seat and 4 doors - yep kids sux with 2 drs

Okay not politically correct, but cars are personal.
