Last night I was driving through Brooklyn behind a beat up nasty ass Van and I heard all this tin can dragging sound coming and I thought "that can is gonna explode from being so shitty"
then the van turned off and I still heard the sound!!! fast forward to this morning and I'm sitting in a traffic jam hearing the same sound. It sounds like a tin can tumbling around or otherwise known as the 'cowbell sound' I haven't been able to do any proper hard braking because I have a coffee in the car...lol. but I just read about this one here. Has the hard braking solved it for most of you? this is one of the most irritating sounds ever!!! LOL |

I had that and it went away. I think it was a small stone in the brakes. Went away after fast run.

I went I to an open parking lot a few days ago and just went wild! lol.....swerving and spinning and braking and accelerating....since then I've heard no sound. must have been a stone which was dislodged after that....umm....spirited activity? |

This has happened to me twice. Pebble stuck between brake and shield. I just take a hose and blast in between the rotor and shield, Clears it up right away.

The sound came back. Gone after run. But now faint scratching noise. May be will try the hose method.

This just happened to me. I was driving normally when I had to pull over and take a phone call and when I parked on the curb and was on the phone I couldn't concentrate on my conversation because I kept hearing the "cowbell". I'm trying to reproduce the event but only have about a 40% success rate. I can reproduce it with better success by backing up slowly and coming to a stop. I can literally put it in P and it will just go on for hours! I waited it out for like 5 minutes and it never went away. Then I just drive off like normal and it is gone???
Oh well, I'm not overly concerned with it as it seems to just be some normal abnormality but it is annoying as $H1T So not dealer worthy? |

I just had this happen the other day, also while autocrossing, after about 4-5 runs. Took me a while to figure out the sound was coming from my car when moving through grid.
While removing the rotor, I had to give some whacks with a hammer and while doing that I heard a pebble hit the floor. Turned the rotor and the sound was gone. Removed it anyway to have a look, no marks on the rotor surface. |

Grinding sound
I had a grinding sound coming from the rear on sharp right turn in low speed. Went to dealer they said it's the differential. They put in oil and said wait 1000miles. If it doesn't go then they might replace it. Anyone get this?

Seems to be stones. I have a 135i. I've gotten stones stuck in the front twice now.
