Not sure what is meant by 'throttle reset,' but I'll take a wild guess and say disconnect your battery since it clears and resets all adaptations made in the ECU...

With most DBW cars there is a sequence you can go through using the ignition and the gas pedal to reset the ECU with regard to driving style and it can sharpen up throttle responce if done from time to time.

I think the ecu reset is done by holding the gas pedal down for 30 seconds with the key in the ignition...but the motor off

Try using your spare key as well. As soon as you start driving it'll feel just like when she was new. That's if you never/rarely use it.

The second one. With only the cars electronics on (press the button but no clutch). Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold it for 30 seconds.

^ Cool! Didn't know this. Sure beats the bending over in the trunk method.

Cheers, I will put this into my once per month mainteneance program like I have always done with DBW throttles. Shame each manufacturer has a different method or it would be easier with them all the same.

Why would the ECU have adaptations on the throttle position? This doesn't make any sense to me.

According to BMW's documentation, to reset the throttle adaptation you do the following:

With the car off, turn the ignition to the on position for 10 seconds(do not start) then turn the ignition off for 10 seconds. Then start the car. You should notice slightly improved performance if you normally drive miss daisy.

I have also been told that disconnecting the battery ground for 20 seconds will reset the short term ECU memory but I can't validate that with BMW doco. These steps are necessary if testing or installing new modifications to be able to determine true performance.

When you say "on" position is thast "key in dash"? or
"key in dash and press start button without depressing clutch" so engine doesn't start ?
