Question 4 those who have done Euro Delivery
To all those who have done ED. I hate to sound like and ignorant, uneducated fool(...but I is what I is...). I speak no German, did anyone have a MAJOR problem communicating?
Thanks! Mac |

Absolutely not. As you can imagine English is the second language at the Delivery Center in Munich.....many many Germans speak a little or even a lot of English. No worries!

I've done Euro Delivery twice. The language is not a problem. Many Germans speak English. It is near universal with young and middle age Germans. It is less common with older Germans. My wife and I spent four weeks in Germany on my last 2 trips and we got along fine. German people are generally wonderful and helpful. German cities and towns are better maintained and cleaner than in the US. In Europe Germany and Switzerland are my favorite countries to visit, especially in a new Bimmer.

How come you think that our cities are cleaner and maintained better ? I have never known what clean is before I visited the US. Clean cities & toilets and people are even nicer than here. You are right about english - it's widely spread here and nearly everyone speaks it more or less fluently.

Thanks for all info. I've been to Italy and Spain. Both times I was with someone who spoke Italian and Spanish. Don't know any one who speaks German. I did figure that most spoke English but wanted to make sure.
MWIE...I may just take you up on that offer! Mac |

You should be fine
I landed in Munich for the first time three summers ago and initially had no trouble. The most confusing thing for me was that ALL the exits from the freeway into the city were for some little place called "Ausfardt" (or something similar). Turns out that's German for "exit" (I'm quite certain I've murdered the spelling).
On the other hand, two weeks later when I changed rental cars in Stutgaart, I was given a VW diesel minivan that someone had put gasoline into. The vehicle DEFINITELY didn't like that, sputtering to a stop at strategically-placed intervals on Stutgaart's "ring road" expressway in morning rush-hour traffic and blocking exits as I finally manged to limp to a tobacco shop far from my memorized destination (with no maps or mobile phone). One of the worst days of my life. I escaped from Germany late into the night and was never so happy to see signs I could read (en Français). |
