Spotted a blue 128 with ///M1 on trunk
Gave him the thumb down flapping lips greeting. So if you frequent this forum I just wanted to say 1890 called "You don't have an M" ...STOP!!!!!

Honestly, nothing better than to worry about what sticker is on somebody's car Mrs. kravits. It's how different than sticking other m parts on your. Who cares it's their car. They didn't ask you to buy it. Why is everyone so easily offended over stupid piddly crap these days. Grow up people.

I wound up driving behind an Altima with an ///M badge a few months ago. I got a chuckle out of it.

Actually I must apologize, this is obviously a man with good taste, who can also afford an M1. I have to say it looks completely different in person then from the pictures that I've seen.

Who cares it's not your car. Can't believe it bothered you so much to post up about it. You should call your lawyers and sue for copyright infringement since he made his 128 a fake M and since you own BMW.

Ted Cruz shows up here every once in a while... spits out a bit of vitriol and then disappears. I find him entertaining.

I think, traditionally, BMW owners don't like it when other BMW owners slap M badges on their car when that car is not a true M car, unless it comes from the factory with that M. ///M means something significant to us and we don't like it thrown around where it doesn't belong.
On the other hand, those owners have the right to do whatever they want to their car because it's theirs, and they don't need anyone's permission or approval. At the same time, if they display their car in public, whether that's driving it down the street, posting pics of it on a car forum, or whatever, they leave themselves open to criticism, like it or not. For me, it's lighthearted and done in a joking way. Like saying "you're a poseur" or "that's sacrilege." I'm not serious about it and don't think most of us are either. I'm really just having some fun and I apologize to those offended. There, I have spoken. Hah!

Putting M parts on your car to improve the performance is one thing, putting M badges on your car incorrectly (M1? really?) proves 2 things:
1: you are a fool who doesn't know what an M1 is (or 1M for that matter) and 2: you care more about what people think of your car than actually driving it. Want an M car to drive? Buy one. Want people to think you drive an M car? Just buy the badges. |

^Basically.
The only place a true M car has an advantage is in spec racing. All other forms a non-M car can be brought to M performance for comparable or less money. IMO, M has become more marketing and status than anything else. Case in point, most of us will ogle a 1M, but glaze over most other 1's. And in all honesty, most all cosmetic alterations are to gain attention, hey look at me. The misbadging has done the job. Just like Brock wearing concealer to cover his spots. |
