128i Sport Auto transmission shift speed?

Has anyone driven the 128i with the sport package and shift paddles?

I'm wondering if the 128i sport has the torque converter like the 135i, which enables much quicker manual shifts with the auto transmission?

I'm looking at getting this car as a fun driver runabout.

I haven't driven in any 128, but from what I've read so far (in this forum), the Steptronic in 128 is supplied by a different manufacturer or different model than the 135. So I bet the shifting speed may not be comparable to the 135.

The shift speed is computer controlled for both cars so it shouldn't any different. The 128 has the GM tranny made in France.

There was another thread in which the differences were explained in detail. You'll have to dig for it though.

I tried to search the thread but couldn't find it. Does anyone happen to know the link?

i test drove the 128 automatic sport package/paddle shifters when i first went to the dealer. it is fun to drive, but bottom line, IT IS SLOW.
my current car (BMW on order) is a V-6 Altima....it is much faster than the 128i automatic.....which is why if you absolutely need the automatic I'd go for the 135i. if you can go stick, i think the 128i is fine....its a nice ride.
hope this helps.

The 128i with a manual should do about 6.0 to 60. And the auto about 6.6 seconds.

The 135i auto and manual are the same 0-60. The auto is also faster if the manual driver isn't real good at launching and shifting the car correctly. I think the manual in the 128i is a must. And in the 135i its a personal choice.

I believe the newer Altima V6 does about 6.2-6.5 0-60.

I agree, the manual is a must in the 128i.
The altima V-6 does 0-60 in 6.0 sec....pretty quick. That is why I was disappointed with the 128i auto....and its lack of torque makes the manual a must. As I said if you need the automatic, get the 135i.:w00t:

^^^ My friend has a V6 Altima and it was almost as fast as my 07 Acura TL-S that might of done 0-60 in high 5's.

I agree that 6.6-6.7 to 60 is pretty slow compared to alot of cars today. Heck the huge Tundra Crewmax 4X4 does 0-60 in 6.2 seconds.

Like said, it's not the same (better) auto tranny that the 135i gets.
