Scott26, please explain yourself - What about the Monte Carlo Blue?

Since it worked so well for WAY. =)
Just had to ask if you can share any news about the availability in Monte Carlo Blue at some point in the life cycle of the new 2011-12 1M?

Please?
Thank you!

Supposedly, it would have to a shade of blue already applied to a 1-series by the Leipzig factory. Which covers Le Mans Blue, Montego Blue, Monaco Blue, Deep Sea Blue, Bluewater and possible some others but not, to my knowledge, Montecarlo Blue.

I put out the suggestion seeing that if there is "serious" demand amongst "serious" customers then it could become convincing.
There were a few replies but then the conversation drifted to classic M3 colors such as Henna Red etc.

And unfortunately I did not have the time to filter the responses.

I'm not sure what you mean here seeing as the "The Official Give Us A BLUE 1M Thread!" I started has around 200 replies and has received more interest than any thread on this board outside the ones giving away new information on the car.

There are always going to be people that steer threads off topic no matter how many times I may have tried to focus the conversation. However if you did not have time to filter the responses I will try and summarize it for you.

There is a very large number of people who want some color of blue, or at least would choose a blue over the 3 known choices. While we may not unanimously agree on one shade of blue, there was a consensus formed that if Monte Carlo Blue were offered as you suggested there is a very significant number of people who would prefer it to the 3 options confirmed so far.

Many of the off topic people who wanted Henna Red etc. mentioned as well that they would take Monte Carlo Blue over the 3 current options and it would be a significant factor in their purchasing decision as they as well are not satisfied with black, white or metallic orange.

There have been many people who have suggested a group buy or some sort of action to bring together enough people to make this happen.

Since you are the one with the knowledge of what it would take to make this happen, perhaps you should let us know what we need to do.

Would you need us to make an orderly list of people who would absolutely choose Monte Carlo Blue as their choice if the only other 3 options were the known choices?

Please let us know what to do to make this happen. Monte Carlo Blue would be a great color that would satisfy the majority of people unhappy with the current 3 color options. It is a new and unique color that would generate excitement for the new 1M brand and tie it to the special edition Monte Carlo Blue M3 that so many of us in the US drooled over, but were not allowed to have.

Not sure why it would be that much harder to paint a car a different, already existing color. I mean the car has to painted some color anyway right?

Guys...seriously...The car will come in White, Black, and Orange. Knowing BMW, they might add a color or 2 for the second model year, but the initial colors are Orange, White, and Black. If this car not coming in a shade of blue will prevent you from purchasing one, then maybe this isn't the car for you. Just saying....

Personally, I don't like any shades of blue that BMW offers, so i'll be happy with mine in Orange or White.

If anything, I would think a red would be more appropriate for a sports car of this caliber. Imola red would be my color of choice...but that is off topic, so i will leave it at that.

Flippant? A tad.

I want MC blue. I could regret saying it, but I'd probably pay a reasonable additional premium to get it. Is that serious enough?

Anyone who doesn't care or want blue, please don't litter the blue-specific threads with OT noise.

I'm going to try and answer this without butchering it completely (and I probably will), but at the pre-drive, we were advised that a lot of research and testing goes into the paint and how it reacts with the panels it's applied to.. Which basically means to say that.. no.. it's not necessarily a matter of shooting a different color, as the manufacturer needs to ensure that the color will be durable, that it will have the proper look on all the different panels etc.

Take a look at a few of these threads...

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=98461

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f...process-96867/

Consider this minor... Apparently GM didn't....

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showth...ht=paint+shade

And take note of this response...

This is what we in the auto refinishing world call "flop". All the repainting in the world won't cure it, just change it slightly.

I am not sure how the plastic is refinished on the Camaro but most manufactures [sic] do it separately due to the high temps used in curing. Some have a better process than others. It can fluctuate from car to car. If you have a bad match at the front facia (bumper cover) [sic] to the fenders and hood the only way for a seamless match is to reshoot the cover and blend into the a- joining [sic] panels.

Trust me it's what I do for a living. .....

And I concur... Note my profile name... I work as claim adjuster.. so i see issues like this A LOT.
It's not often that a manufacturer will come out and acknowledge this as GM has!

So... tell me... would you like your car in blue..... even if it comes out in perhaps several shades of blue depending on how you look at it??
