finally... got her officially in the team! newb question though if i may?
well first of all.
dont buy a car interstate unless you want the RTA to shaft you royally. forked out $2500 yesterday to get it all transfered from QLD to NSW but anyways... dont care much. loving this car so much. i have the idrive/sat nav (w/ flip open monitor + bluetooth)... is there anyway to stream my iphone music through the bluetooth? cant seem to find any settings to enable it? also tried plugging in my phone into the USB and it said it wasn't compatible or whatever? however, when i put in a USB stick, it gives options for playlists, artists etc etc like if you where controlling an iphone? Can you clarify how the RTA shafted you?

+1 on this.
As for your questions. Bluetooth Audio might have been an option on earlier cars, someone with the early iDrive will need to help you. You will need a Y-cable for your iphone. I used to have a couple but might have threw it out, if not I will let you know and I can send it down.

Although rego & stamp duty are part of every car purchase whether interstate or local doesn't change anything so it's not really getting shafted... |

Ah yeah the usual shafting! Insurance is a joke.

Sorry, no luck with the cable. Must have throw it out as I no longer need those with the new cars.

Buy one off those y cables off eBay. I got one for about $3-4 shipped and it works perfectly.

Your flip-up idrive wont bluetooth stream music.
Just get a tiny 16gb usb, load up all your music, sort it into folders, etc, and just stick it in. Easiest way. Congrats on the car otherwise! |

thanks guys! i've been using my usb in the meantime. but have noticed that the car is still accessing the drive while no key is in the ignition, reckon this could drain the battery?... and yeah getting shafted on insurance too but i think i got a pretty good deal considering i'm only 24. 175 a month through NRMA ( roadside, multi car and home discounted it by $3500 a year). loving this car. should have bought it sooner. just realised i have black exhaust tips too!

I wouldn't worry, I keep my usb plugged in 24/7. I was overseas for 3 weeks before (car didn't get driven at all) and still all good.
I pay about $150 a month on insurance, after multi policy discount etc. Reckon I got ripped off (I'm 27). |

Congrats on the new ride! Yeah, it hurts to pay stamp/rego/insurance/transfer fees/blue slips etc. all in one day but it's standard fare whether u buy NSW or elsewhere. It'll fade away once you drive it!
As others have said, you need a Y-Cable. Original is $125 from a stealer. Pick one (or two just in case one fails) up from Ebay for like $10 and the you'll have iPhone/Pod connectivity. mine's plugged in all the time- I think it shuts down after a while though so no probs with battery drainage. Black tips are standard |

Just be careful as the newer cars disabled the USB power when the car shuts off so it can be plugged in 24/7 without doing anything to the battery. If yours doesn't then it could drain battery. Also, if you are not driving your car for a while, make sure you lock your car as that also drains battery.

don't our cars have a failsafe of sorts that shut down nonessential power draining features when it detects that the charge in the battery has become too low?
i mean... it's still not the most ideal situation to keep the battery healthy, but in a 'you'll still be able to start the car' situation. I've had all sorts of dash lights flash up/my dash basically die but engine keep running/power steering) when my battery somehow ran too low (while driving :/ ) once |
