If that's the August issue of Roundel - the article was probably written prior to mid-June (at the latest). That's about the latest date the issue can be 'put to bed'. So when it was written the 135i was not officially announced. I liked the round tailamps mention though. ; -)

As owner of two 2002s from 1972 to 1995, I might wait for the revamped 3-box 1-series that the Roundel says is due in 2011. I am not too keen on the current bangled jelly beans.

Yes, yes,... what is the business about an updated tii??? with round lights even??? that doesn't quite make sense to me. A new 2002, a 135i and an M1, all living parallel lives? Oh the games they play w/ us.

Where is Scott26/7 when you need him?

i think if you read it carefully it says that the new 2002-like model will be introduced when the current 1 series is phased out in 2011.

not sure how much is speculation and how much is truth with this mag's page. :iono:

Sorry, I don't read too good.

Upon re-inspection of the passage, it looks like they are talking about the 2nd gen 1-series. Given that the 135 coupe is just another derivative of the 1st gen 1-series, the new coupe will live for just 3 years (2008, 09, 10) to be replaced in 2011. Looks like the coupe is intended as a quick end of lifecycle pick-me-up for gen 1.

Wow, I dont think I can wait 7 month let alone 3.5 more years. I might as well just buy the M3 in a year.

Given that in the past, Coupes have trailed other body styles at least 1 year for any model, I would expect that the next 1 series Coupe will not appear until 2012 at the very earliest.

BMW could keep the existing 135i Coupe in production until 2012 without any problem, if it sells well. They did that with the E36 M3 Coupe in 1999, when the sedan was changed to the E46 chassis.

So as long as we're speculating , it is possible for the 135i to be in production for almost 5 years. Not too shabby...

And ragtops generally follow the Coupes by a year, so those of us waiting til fall '08 for the ragtop should be good til 2013..
