I believe that would be known as the door handle, it allows you to open the door

The 135 at the Toronto autoshow had the slot for the additional cup holder by the shifter but it was removed. I guess so it would not be stollen or maybe it already was. It was a non-nav car as well.

Interesting - I have seen that slot there before in some of the pics - never knew what it was for, and never saw the accompanying cup holder. Mine is non-nav so I'll have the two center console holders, don't think I would need that third add-on one. But I'm curious if BMW provides that cup holder that goes in that slot?

It's only supposed to have that third (Pop-out) cup holder, if you got the iDrive/nav, and there's only room for one cup holder by the armrest.

That's the same cup holder that's in the 650 is sat in. Weren't there early interior pics of the 135 showing that? It's removable right?

I'm not sure why it's so hard for the Germans to design a proper cup holder. They can manage to fit 6 ashtrays in a Mini, but can't put one decent properly placed cupholder in a car!

I put about 35k miles a year on a car. That's a lot of time spent without a drink.

With the NAV cars you will actually need that clip-on cup holder. To use the Rear (and only on the NAV cars) cup holder you have to drive with the center cover in the UP position.

I asked the same question on asv's thread but he never saw it or responded to it.

It's just weird a non-nav got a 3rd cup holder...
