Want an OEM factory lighted shift knob? Look to the F10 M5

The F10 M5's shift knob is going to be a direct swap for the 1M coupe. Just gotta find a way to wire it in the 1M and then LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Is it the same size? I absolutely love how the 1M shifter fits in my hand.

Me too, would hesitate to change it if it is not the same but from the pictures in the link it looks identical knob to me.

Looks like the shift boot may be connected to the shift knob. Can you confirm this?

If you don't want to wait, I sell an Illuminated ZHP Shift Knob (which includes instructions and all necessary parts to retrofit an illuminated shift knob).

How is the F10M's different than the ZHP knob?

It doesn't look different to me. However, it does look like there is a ring at the top of the shift boot which may be connecting the knob to the boot. If that is the case, the F10 setup is not going to be cheap.

That's what ///M1 suggested and hoped for almost three months ago. Seems that he was right.

Now let's hope that fitting and wiring is not too much of a DIY hassle or compatibility issue.

HA! They will probably sell more shift knobs to 1M (manual only) than to the M5 purchasers, most of whom I suspect will want an automatic.

I couldn't wait any longer and bought the ZHP illuminated shift knob from Andy. I will pick it up from Florida in a few weeks along with a bunch of goodies I'm getting and will bring back to Peru to get installed!
I'll keep you guys posted when I install it.

Yes, BMW NA Parts Manager knows the task ahead of him.

Question is, does Mr. Metak know? Now we need "1 of 740" custom engraved knob inserts/caps

Indeed, wait is over (well, just about, need to get these in inventory).

Tapping power through our cigarette lighter (even though we don't have the smoker's pack) should be very doable, this is how my P3 boost gauge takes its power with stock PnP connectors/splitters.
