2009 WRX

I just don't get this.

The 2009 WRX developes 195 kw and 343 Nm. The torque curves show peak torque at around 4000rpm.

So how is that the 0-100 times are being cited as 5.3 secs, the same as the 135i!!

Even allowing for AWD, those energy figures just don't make any sense to me.

I admit my frustation with this is probably a product of my perennial war with the doof-doof crowd!

Going by all the American road tests, a time of 4.8 is normal.

I think they have under stated the time and power of the 135i. Probably so it doesn't show up the M3 in straight line performance which is probably what most people go on.

Even allowing for BMW's shyness about the 135, the performance figures quoted for the WRX seem pretty extraordinary. For example, the 130i is 195kw also, yet the quoted time for 0-100 is 6.1 secs!!!

Don't underestimate 4x4 drive. Also, I bet its heaps lighter than a 135.

I love armchair racing...135i is slightly heavier than an 09 WRX...but the extra 30kw would make up for that no problem...

Traction is action. I traded an Sti for my 135. In an all out drag the sti will launch in a way the 135 could only dream about. However, look at the terminal speed over say a 1/4 mile. The 135 will be travelling quicker and will get to 160kph about a second quicker/

Maybe they did the test with tank almost empty, red line clutch dumps, spare wheel taken out, on a slighty angled down road, with 100 kmph wind assistance, cold air temps, 100+ octane fuel to get those times.
I have driven evos and previous gen wrx and for daily driving they never felt as fast as they are claimed, too laggy. You have to abuse them to get going, which I dont like to do.

Price to punch ratio it's hard to beat a WRX, which is why I bought one a few years ago.

When I had some decent money to throw down, I bought the 135 and have never looked back since (and I loved that WRX).

That is the weight of an Sti. The WRX is marginally lighter. For all intents, the WRX and 135 weigh within a few kgs of each other. The difference is that for the same weight Subaru add a 4wd system and 2 extra doors.
