I don't get dents in the first place. Spending 30 extra seconds walking across a parking lot can save you a lot of pain/paint.

For the deer that decided to kamikaze into the side of my front left fender? You are damn right I had the insurance company pay for a brand new fender instead of popping the dent and blend the bumper/hood/fender/A pillar/door/rear fender properly.

Long enough time in the car community with friends who have had their cars for ages.

Still better than Japan. Those cars roll out of the factory rusting.

is trimming just removing part the fender lip on the inside? How does trimming compare to rolling concerning future rust.

Hops, I know you said a 245 series on a 17 et40... but 17 x "what"? Makes a difference if 17x8, 17x9, etc. and can help others provide some clearance advice

Hops, your 17x8.5 et40 rear protrudes 1mm LESS than my 18x9 et45 rear. I am running a Potenza S04 255/35 18, and with a mild roll AND slight shaving of the rear bumper tab inside the fender was able to ELIMINATE any rub. I had 255/35 18 Yoko SDrives as well, and their "squarer" shoulder profile still rubbed, albeit barely.

Based on this, I see no reason why with -1.5 to -1.8 of rear camber, and the roller fender/shaved tab you couldn't remove any/all rubbing.

*** BTW, the right rear fender clearance appears to be about 3-4mm tighter/smaller on our cars than the left rear. Do a on here and you will see how many others have ran into the SAME issue... where the right rear rubs while the left does not; SAME geometry side to side. ***

Wow, that explains a lot! I was puzzled why the left wasn't rubbing. On my commute the only semi-aggressive turning i have are right turns on exits, i got no rubbing. But then i thought well, the right is rubbing because there are more pot holes on the right side of the street, and a pot hole is more like to fully compress the suspension then a semi-aggressive turn.

Appreciate the info, i'm more optimistic about getting this to work with a roll.

got my fenders rolled today, judging by the spacing i see on the fender liners, i'd say 1/2 centimeter of space was created. I was told I'm probably have enough clearance now. Ready for my first STX event Sunday!

Now i'm wondering if i should do something about the fender liners since they don't tuck in, now there's a space for water to get in?

Sweet, you got rid of the rub!

As far as the fender liners not linning up, you might want to remove the wheel, unbolt those 6-8 plastic nuts that attach the liner to the inside of the wheelwell, and see if you can "massage" them into place further outboard.

I am guessing the liner doesn't tuck into that top "channel" atop the inside of the rolled fender lip... and is maybe 4-5mm away from it. If you placed 4-5mm of washers between the actual wheelwell and fender liner itself, you should be able to tighten the plastic nuts back up... and viola! Might be able to tuck into the channell again. I didn't need to do that on mine... but might be worth a shot.

that's a great idea on the washers. better than my thoughts of using tape.
