The hood is damn near impossible to get from BMW. Only Mr.Metak2you & Stratus650 have been able to secure hoods.
There have been some VO cars with aftermarket cf hoods, with a M3-like power bulge posted before on 1Addicts.

The alignment is perfect. took about 2 hours to get it right though. only issue is you cant use your hood switch for the alarm anymore because it has no place to hit. If you can find one expect to pay in the thousands including paint.

Mr.Metak2you helped me out in a few years ago in getting a hood. On the first order, the hood was slightly dented near the dome. I ordered a second hood and had it painted and installed on my 1M. I still have the dented/unpainted hood in the garage. I will take a photo when I get a chance. I'm going to post it up for sale soon.
Here are pictures of the hood. Last edited by v1nc3nt; 03-22-2015 at 04:13 PM.. |

See also these ActiveE hood threads:
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=574231 http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=640610 http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=642916 http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=567621 The bulge in the ActiveE hood was required to host one of the three battery blocks (there was one battery block under the hood, one in the transmission tunnel and one below the rear seats): "Originally it wasn't going to have it and if you look at the early photos of the prototype, it didn't. However once they had to re-engineer the structural integrity of it to accommodate the electric powertrain and three battery packs, they couldn't fit the battery block under the hood due to the reinforcements necessary. They had to create the bump to fit the battery block. Here's a picture of the car in testing without the hood. Note how high the battery sticks up above the hoodline. " And for the record again about coincidence: the ActiveE saved the day for the 1M. The (time) window of opportunity was small, but just enough to get the project approved by the BMW Board. Without the ActiveE, the E82 1M would not have come to existence: "The time window for this car [1M] [was] extremely tight [...] There had to be a lot of arm-twisting in the BMW Board because of the tight window between generation 1 and generation 2 of the Coupe. The proposal was greenlighted when BMW decided to use the Coupe model for the BMW eDrive evaluation. Therefore slightly extending its life cycle. [...]"
