You'll have a hard time going wrong with gas in the States. 91 octane should be fine if you're in a place like California with no 93. Even if you're tuned for 93 the ECU will compensate safely for the slightly lower octane.

If you want to avoid ethanol, which most gas in the US contains, check out this link:

http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp

Most of the stations near me that carry ethanol-free gas only have 91 octane.

I usually get 92 octane with "up to 10% ethanol" from the brand names, Shell, Chevron or Exxon as mentioned above.

Through that website, I discovered a self service Pacific Pride station 2 miles from my house that carries Sunoco 100 octane ethanol free race gas.

i honestly don't think there's any difference between branded and unbranded petrol in the US.

i usually get 93 octane from Gulf or Hess stations here; and all of them have Ethanol added (have never seen Ethanol-free in the NYC/LI area).

Most stations in an area are supplied with the same gasoline. There have been numerous studies done that have found that unbranded stations have the same quality of stuff as branded stations so i think you should be fine if you get 93 octane anywhere (or 91 if that's not available to you)

I would also add BP to that list. And you may see Exxon as Mobil or ExxonMobil.

Have a fun drive. You should post pictures and let us know about your trip!

I have been told by a reputable tuner that the Chevron w/ Techron helps keep our injectors clean.

All of a region's gasoline comes off a pipeline that all companies use, so yes, the actual gasoline is the same, but then some companies add their additive and detergent package for each market. That is the difference.

I still debate 91 octane clear-gas versus 92 octane with ethanol. Not sure which one the car likes better. It DEFINITELY likes the 100 octane clear gas, which I put in for my recent track day. Throttle response was noticably better from the moment I left the gas station.

All these people running E85 mixes makes me think that running E10 is no big deal. I just go for the highest octane from a top tier station. Here in Ontario that means using Petro Can 94, even if it has ethanol.

It is the additive package that makes the difference, can be 25% of the fuel.

Saying they are all the same because the base fuel is the same, is like saying a McChicken is the same as a coq au vin from a Michelin restaurant because they both start with chicken.

I run an E70 blend on a daily basis. I have a fuel-it LPFP kit so I'm worry free (for now). But even if you're running a stock LPFP you shouldn't be worried about the LPFP or the HPFP causing problems if you're running E10. Definitely go for top tier gas stations.

I've been told by multiple service techs in Ontario to use Shell v-power as it is cleaner.

It is not cleaner. Shell 91 is just ethanol free. That is what I use in my bike, as it requires premium, but does not adjust for higher octanes like our cars, also, storing a vehicle with ethanol fuel over the winter is a really bad idea, gums things up.

I use 94 octane for better power and FE in the car.
