Very disappointed... or not...

As some of you may have read, I just returned from a cross country trip of 6,200 miles, from York PA to Seattle, WA.

I'd been hoping to see a few 1ers around at least in the bigger towns but I saw a grand total of 2 --- a 128i in SGM convertible going in the opposite direction less than 100miles from home, and a black 135 in a parking garage in Seattle. That's it.

Kind of disappointing not to see many one series but in a way, kind of nice not to have what everyone else has.

Personally like the fact that our cars are somewhat rare.

See you around Seattle. There are more than you'd expect around here.

I've probably seen about 100+ 1ers on the roads here in SoCal and it follows a pretty close pattern. The 128i's either have a super hot young chick or some old guy. And the 135i's have mostly young males.

now, now my friend. Some of us might seem old in your eyes and I just turned 44, but guess what, I was able to pay cash for the car and own it

Stereotyping at its best.

Almost just kidding, I could care less what you youngsters think about us "old" people.

I am seeing more one series cars around Houston lately. None the less, two in a day is a lot, but for a 3 series it is about one for every minute on the road.

Yea but that's Southern Cal, not the real world.

Actually, my cars doppelganger is just a few houses down from mine here in my neighborhood. Both 2012 crimson red 128s with sport package

Ya, I wish..!! Just bought my 135i and I'm 68. Feel like 38 tho.

Stereotyping is dangerous tho, as there are always a million exceptions.

I think I've had maybe 5-6 total sitings of other 1 series in San Antonio in over 3 years and 2 were the same gold 135. People are clueless around here... Mine's debadged and people say the weirdest things.

Old man in parking lot: "That's one of those little BMW 4-cylinders isn't it...".
Me: "Na not exactly.."

CLK55 owner just got smoked: "Holy shit man, what is that? Is that a BMW?"
Me: "Yeah..."

Whataburger drive-thru kid: "Your car sounds nice, is that a Scion?"
Me: "Damn, what a burn.... just gimme my food, jeez..."

I only see a 1 series occasionally in my 20+ mile commute to work and back. They are more rare but the only way I see that is an issue is the availability of after market parts. The fact that many things made for a 3 will work helps.

ok but mostly means anything more then 51%, which I would entirely agree with, more like 70% are young guys in 135is

only 1'ers i see are in certain communities.

In Germany i saw all sorts of 1'ers . mostly hatchback like the 115, 120, 125, 118. etc..

On the military base in Germany i saw a good amount of 135i and 128. Id say about 12 or so in the military community there, and i knew over half of the 135i owners.

In America its very hard to find these 1'ers. I only see them in bunches in LA, and San Francisco. East coast is rare to find them, and they dont exist in the mid west. lol.

Not sure what you're basing your opinion on but I see them quite frequently here in the NY tristate area. Nearly not as many as the 3 series which sees like 2 in 10 cars around these parts but they arent a rare sight.

This. 3ers are as common as a Camry here. I see a fair amount of 1ers as well (there are 4 in my office complex) but each time I wave I get the stink eye in return.

I dont do the wave with the BMW. As you say, there are way to many of them on the roads. With all the different models on the road that wear the distinctive kidney grilles that might be taken for a 1 series(at high closure speeds) it would spoil every drive scanning for what the car is to see if it were a 1 and by the time I did, it would be passed already. Way to much effort.

I do however, wave to fellow Vette drivers. Its a destinctive car that can be recognized and identified at distance and 90%+ do return the wave.

Same thing when I had my Lotus. It was so rare to see one that most of the time the other person would be freaking out more than me. It was fun while it lasted..
