While I was home in the states on leave, I was in So Flo (West Palm Beach) and couldn't believe the amount of 3,5, and 7 series on the road. It seemed like every other car on I95 was a bimmer....but I did not see a single 1er.
Too me that is the allure about the 1. I was toying with the idea of picking up a bimmer and went to the dealer somewhat intent on a 3 series but quickly found out that even with our massive discount it was more than I was willing to pay. Well I started doing my research on the 1, and finding out more and more, that the general public had no clue of this car....even so called "gear heads" were clueless as to the potential of it. Its an unassuming little car. IMHO a total sleeper. I have always liked those kind of vehicles. Same goes for my other car, a '95 Impala SS. Most people have no clue that it has a LT1 Vette motor under the hood...back when it belonged to my dad and I was in high school I used to love taking it out, and red light racing all the little rice boys at my school. Their face was priceless when i smoked their 87 Primer Colored CRX's with a comically huge spoiler on them. What was that line from Lock Stock Two Smoking Barrels?.... My wife enjoys her 135i, but rarely notices other ones. We used to live in SoCal and they were everywhere. I'm actually surprised how often I see them in Dallas though, I'd guess I see two or three a day on average here.
It's not as rare as my old M Coupe, but still much less common than most other BMW's and fun to spot other ones on the road. We did see a doppelganger this weekend. |

Every once and a while I will see 1 or two a day, but not always. There is a black 135i vert, and a silver 135i near me. But don't see them every day.

Here in central MA I've seen three others since March when I started looking. One was/is on a used car dealer's lot this morning on the way into the office. BTW it is a nice, loaded, steel grey at Foley Motorcars in Shrewsbury MA.
Regards,

Agree 100%. Still, thought it was very odd not to see even ONE 1er the entire trip
from Northeast Ohio to the Outer Banks (including a one night layover in a Baltimore 'burb). Will be curious to see if we pass any on the trip back tomorrow. Last edited by Section147; 07-17-2012 at 09:35 AM.. |

There are a load of them in the NY-NJ region. I now see 1 or 2 every day though most of those are 128is with clueless drivers. Very rarely do I see a someone who appreciates what they have and recognize it in another 1.

Keep you tights on. When I say clueless I mean the person who has no real appreciation for the 1 series they drive. They could have either a 128i or 135i, but - let's be honest - the majority of 128i drivers are not 1Addicts and might have been just as happy in a 3 series or Lexus. I have a better chance of making eye contact with someone in a 135i because they seem to be more inclined to notice my 1 series than the average, middle aged woman who I typically see in a 128i. It's not the car that makes you clueless, it's the lack of appreciation for our cars that I think makes you clueless.

Not really, it's a immature statement of someone who thinks the car can only be appreciated if it's tuned up and optically enhanced and not enjoyed, or even being enthusiastic about it in it's natural design. How shallow and ignorant this statement is.

I'm not sure where you're getting all of the tuned up/optically enhanced commentary from. Unless I'm missing something... Last edited by Section147; 07-17-2012 at 11:27 AM.. |

On Long Island, I am starting to see more and more, and it bothers me. I like the exclusiveness. I admit though, they are mostly 128i's not the 35, which is somewhat reassuring. Yesterday I saw 2 throughout the day, which is a lot. But I'm starting to almost see 1 everyday.

I live in Fayetteville, sizable military town, with the largest (population) Army base in the world.
I think I've seen 3 135is in town, one of which is a member on here (Mnst3r). Maybe 5 or so 128is. Pretty crazy. |

This thread started out fine, but has deteriorated into yet another 128 vs 135 pissing match. How stupid......
Lot of immature people on here, it seems.

Hey, tuc...love ya to death and not sayin' I don't agree with you, but.
There are over 100,000 members here (not sure how many are active) and not everyone's going to see your (or my) points of view. When I had my GTIs I spent many, many hours on vwvortex. Those folks would eat most of the members here for lunch. I realize it's a very different crew here and I kind of like it that way but as I've said before, there are WAY too many thin skins on this forum. When someone disagrees with someone, here's a unique idea...have a debate! Not in a disrespectful, troll-like fashion, but don't be afraid to state your case. It beats whining about how mean everybody is. "Can't we all just get along"? Really? Uncle. |
