Is it me or are the Breyton GTS-R the lightest for the buck?

I was looking for track wheels and I noticed the the GTS-R are the lightest and reasonably priced. Does anyone know if they are track worthy in terms of strength?

What size tires do you want to run? what are your suspension modifications? and would this be your street and track setup?

As mentioned by arrutled, the ARC-8 is a very light track oriented wheel and can fit a 275 r-compound (tire tested is wider then 285 street tires). The question is how much rubber do you want to squeeze up front. A 235 or 245 in the front can work for a daily setup, but the 255 front setup would probably only be ideal for the track/auto-x

If you are looking strictly for track wheels, which I assume means you will have separate wheels for daily driving, then you need to provide a lot more info.

I run 19x8.5/19x9 Forgestars F-14s for DD and 18x8 OZ Ultraleggeras on the track. If or when those APEX wheels arrutled linked are actually being sold I will probably look into those. Forgestar is also supposed to be coming out with 18' wheels with custom offsets, which I am looking forward to. Would save me a couple steps in swapping wheels, hubcentrics, and spacers for the track.

The Breyton GTSRs are very popular and I haven't heard any complaints from people that drive thier cars fast (except for the trendy red stripes they have).

Ya I was planning to have the wheels strictly for track use but I think I will start with suspension. I was looking into camber plates and M3 lowers arms. Any advice?

I would go with the OZ Ultraleggreas. They are something like 17 lbs a piece and only cost $20 more a wheel than the Breytons.

They alos look much much much much much much much much much better than the GTS-Rs.

For track, I'd get the APEX ARC-8 wheels for sure.

For street, the OZ Ultraleggeras and Breyton GTS-R's are two fine choices.

At one point, I couldn't decide between the two. I've personally gravitated towards the GTS-R's due to aesthetic differences that I prefer. I plan on doing something about the red stripe though -- is that what's bothering you too, BrokenVert?

There also seems to be a risk of rubbing with wider rear tires such as a 255 on the Ultraleggera due its lower (-8mm) offset...without a fender mod or camber adjustment especially in a lowered suspension. The GTS-R seems to be right at home running with 255 rears in most, if not all, setups however.

You'd be saving a total of about 160 beans with the GTS-R setup too.

Oh, and a total weight savings of 1kg as well.
(Assuming you're comparing to the lighter 18x8 Ultraleggera which would limit your rear tire width to 245. Otherwise, against the 18x9, it'd be a 6.8lbs advantage.)

I cracked 2 in the first 4 months of ownership...lightweight obviously equals weakness.

Actually I just love the look of the Ultraleggreas, they are one of my favorite wheels desgin wise (I just love DTM style). The reason I havent bought them is because I cant fit my 255s in the rear.

Im actually saving up for Advan RZs at the moment. They are the first wheel availible for the 1er that my jaw just drops for. But they are very expensive.

I think it's pretty safe to say they are the lightest wheels for the buck. That's why I got them. I think they look great as well. You have no idea how many people ask me about my wheels. It's unbelievable.

But not sure how they hold up long term at the track. I've only done 1 autox and a car control class with these wheels.

where did you get them? is there a way to get a warranty to cover something like that? Do any of the other wheels have the same problems (OS Ultraleggreas or APEX ARC-8)?
