Erratic RPM during idle
Hi all,
Anyone with similar experience or advise to offer? Been driving the E90 320i (steptronics) since Jul and clocked 12,000 km (abt 7k miles). Only notice the rpm needle moving up and down (+_ 100) during idle. It used to be rock solid. When aircon was switch off, rpm would drop and hover at the new level again. Will bring car back to dealer soon to have it check. Any advise will be appreciated. MotoFish - Singapore |

My E90 has small stearing wheel vibration
My 330i automatic has a small vibration when when I idle. When the
AC is turned on the vibration goes away. Very small but I notice. |

My E90 idles rough for about 15-30 seconds while cold, apparently that's by design (running rich when first fired up).
No issues at all once warmed up. |

All - Thanks for sharing. I live in the tropics so no problems with cold starts. The idle rpm movements notice thruout the drive, not only in the morning. While the rpm needle moves up and down, did not notice any vibration of the engine though.

My car stalled by itself the other day while I was stopped at work trying to find something from the glove box, there was no sign, no weird behaviors, the engine just shut itself down as if I pressed the START/STOP button. I just laughed and started it up again, wasn't too worried because I did start/stop the engine A LOT that day (it was a very boring day) so I figured the car was a bit pissed at me.
Never happened before that, and never happened after that. |

Note- the fluatuating rpm happens during idle in "N" mode and when the car is stationary in "D" (traffic light). |

Something else I forgot, but figured they worked out with the E90. My ZHP used to have an erratic idle during warm humid months. Living in Atlanta we usually see 90+ degrees with 90%+ humidity on a daily basis in the summer. You may want to dealer to raise the idle by 50rpms or so. |

Socom, I don't think that is the case cause there are several hundred E90s on Singapore roads since May. We have a local forum(BMW.SG) and a regular monthly meetup. I have checked with the other members and none of the other cars reported similar problem. Thanks anyway for your suggestion.

You might want to have your fluctuating idle revs checked out as soon as you can. At least you are chauffeur to your family in a car we all LOVE to drive. You're doin it in style!!! All the best Motofish
